Months of hard work finally paid off. Nepal finally tasted a win in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2026. On February 17, they defeated Scotland by 7 wickets and 4 balls to spare at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

The victory against Scotland marked the first T20 World Cup win in 12 years for the Nepal cricket team.

Nepal countied their fight in search for a win World Cup

The Nepal cricket team had displayed some brilliant cricket against some of the big names of their group, which is Group C. Their fight against England will be remembered for a long time. They went very close to producing an upset but fell short by only some margins.

Talking about today’s match, Nepal won the toss and invited Scotland to bat first. In the first innings, the bowlers did a pretty impressive job by restricting the Scotland cricket team to only 170 runs in 20 overs, claiming 7 wickets. Sompal Kami was the most successful bowler against the Scottish, taking 3 wickets. Nandan Yadav claimed a brace as well.

One of the finest run chase in the tournament so far

The Nepalese batters did not have to toil too much to get the target total. Losing only 3 wickets, they got their much-awaited victory. Dipendra Singh Airee, one of the most explosive batters of the team, played an unbeaten 50-run knock against 23 balls. His innings was decorated with four 4s and three 6s. Kushal Bhurtel, facing 35 balls, scored 43. His opening partner Aasif Sheikh contributed with 33 runs.

Rohit Paudel, the experienced captain of Nepal, was overwhelmed with the result. After leading the team in two World Cups, Paudel got to register a win. He mentioned that this win is not only important for him but equally important for the entire team.

Words from the captain’s mouth

“I think this means a lot to me, especially since this is my second World Cup as captain and I’m winning my first game in the last league stage. So I think this game was very important to us, not only me, but us as a team,” the skipper said after defeating Scotland with ease.

He thanked the crowd who travelled to India to show relentless support to the team.

“I think for them also, this win was very important because they saw our game against England. The crowd was already here, and then they started booking tickets, and they again came here,” the skipper added.
