We will learn from it: Suryakumar Yadav after India’s loss

Team India’s undefeated streak comes to an end in the T20 World Cup in the hands of South Africa. South Africa outclassed the defending champion by a massive margin of 76 runs at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad in a Super 8 match, which is one of India’s biggest defeats in the history of the ICC T20 World Cup.

According to stats, it was India’s first defeat in a multi-nation T20I tournament since losing the semifinals against England in Adelaide in T20 WC 2022. After today’s heartbreaking defeat, India captain Suryakumar Yadav vowed to bounce back soon. He praised the bowlers for restricting South Africa in crucial moments of the match but criticized the batting part.

Suryakumar Yadav praised Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh

“We were always in the game when we started. Bowled really well in the beginning. From 7-15, they batted really well, and then we came back. Bowled really well but could have batted better,” Suryakumar Yadav said during the post-match presentation ceremony.

Suryakumar Yadav praised Bumrah and Singh for their effective bowling spells. Bumrah claimed 3 wickets in his 4-over spell for a 3.75 economy rate, while Arshdeep Singh claimed 2 in 4 overs against only 28 runs.

“Everyone knows their combination has been lethal. Both bowled eight overs, picked five wickets, and gave up 45-50 runs. They bowl well in partnerships,” Suryakumar Yadav said, praising the pacer duo.

South Africa bounced back

With the new ball, Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh dismissed South Africa’s top three batters of their lineup. After losing three quick wickets, Dewald Brevis (45), David Miller (63), and Tristan Stubbs (44*) pulled the team out from danger.

Later, after the 16th over, India again found themselves back in the game and restricted South Africa to 187 for 7 in 20 overs.

The target was chase-able for a team like India, which has a lot of firepower. But it was simply a bad day for the Indian batters, as they barely put up any fight against the opposing bowlers.

Shivam Dube was the only one who got some notable runs and kept the team in the contest for a while. Though South Africa, led by Aiden Markram, won the match with ease.

Surykumar Yadav promises to make a comeback strongly

“Sometimes, you have to think you cannot win the game in the power play, but you can lose it. Did not have the partnerships we needed. Part of the game. We will learn from it. Sit back and bounce back,” the Team India captain said.

“And good to have them on our side. (On plans for the next game in Chennai) Hopefully bat well, bowl well, and field well. Keep it simple. That is what we will try to do.”
