Rishabh Pant Hobbles Out To Bat Despite Injury
Pant sustained a foot injury on Day 1 of the fourth Test match of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025. He fractured his foot during the 68th over and was forced to retire hurt after scoring 37 runs.
He tried to play a premeditated reverse sweep off pacer Chris Woakes and under-edged the ball onto his foot. The blow on the foot absolutely stunned the wicketkeeper-batsman, and he was forced to leave the field in pain.
Later, it was confirmed that Pant has fractured his foot and will be missing the last Test against England. However, BCCI confirmed that Rishabh Pant will be available to bat in Manchester if required, but Dhruv Jurel will be taking over the gloves.
Meanwhile, England skipper Ben Stokes dismissed India all-rounder Shardul Thakur in the 102nd over, as Ben Duckett grabbed a stunner at gully.
After his dismissal, Rishabh Pant was seen walking down the stairs slowly. He received deafening cheers and a standing ovation from the Manchester crowd as he limped his way to the middle, and Shardul Thakur was also seen patting Pant on the head for showing unbelievable determination.

This is quite remarkable – Ian Ward
Speaking on Sky Sports, Ian Ward, the former England cricketer, was absolutely surprised seeing Pant walk out to bat and labelled it as a remarkable moment. He said:
“Pant is gingerly making his way to the middle. This is quite remarkable, good for him because he is obviously still in great discomfort. Now, anything can happen, apart from quick singles. He is not moving with any great freedom.”
Meanwhile, ‘Astounded’ Dinesh Karthik, the former India wicketkeeper-batsman, was excited to see the method that Rishabh Pant would adopt while batting in the middle. He said:
“We all know the series hangs in the balance, so it’s remarkable to see Pant come out to bat, especially with the ball moving around. It will be interesting to see what method of batting he adopts. I’m quite astounded he’s out here right now.”
Also, former India National Cricket wicketkeeper-batsman Deep Dasgupta, while speaking on BBC Test Match Special, said that Pant can score quick runs for his side. He stated:
“The fact that Rishabh Pant doesn’t move his feet much and he’s got all these unusual areas where he can score will help, he’s very handsy as a batter. He’ll just have to stand and deliver; obviously he’ll be searching for the boundary.”
