Former Indian batter Mohammad Kaif feels that Suryakumar Yadav is just not being able to make the right use of ace speedster Jasprit Bumrah. He also referred to former captain Rohit Sharma’s ways and praised how he regulated Bumrah’s spell, which often reaped massive game-changing outcomes.
Until a captain is making it work and is on winning ways, no one ever questions their most unconventional plans, but when the results don’t line up in their favour, people do not step back from finding flaws in the most obvious of strategies. The same is the case with Suryakumar Yadav’s captaincy.
Suryakumar Yadav was largely praised for his ways in the shortest format of the game; however, he broke his jinx with the bat but also lost the first game with the Indian team since their last ICC defeat, which came back in the CWC 2023 final.
“We lost the match between the 7th and 15th over” – Mohammad Kaif’s verdict on Suryakumar Yadav’s captaincy
Former RCB and Indian batter Mohammad Kaif feels that Suryakumar is just not using the right trick while rotating Jasprit Bumrah’s bowling spells. He has now begun handing the new ball to Bumrah since the Pakistan game. Bumrah, too, has returned among wickets after his latest promotion.
However, Bumrah’s use has been way too predictable, with two overs first up and later a handful in the death overs. He opined that India lost the game to South Africa in the middle overs when David Miller and Dewald Brevis went all-in on the Indian bowlers. One of Bumrah’s overs could be bowled there.
“We lost the match between the 7th and 15th over. You used Bumrah’s two overs early and kept the remaining two for the death. But Rohit Sharma never used Bumrah like this,” he said on his YouTube video.
Mohammad Kaif revealed how Rohit Sharma regulated Jasprit Bumrah’s spell
The former Indian captain, Rohit Sharma, was not the most successful among Indian captains in ICC tournaments without having done anything. He had his own strategies and was often seen as a captain of new possibilities.
He identified that Bumrah could be used efficiently to choke the batters when they are at their best and would not step back from attacking even the legendary bowler. Hence, Rohit always got an over from Bumrah in the middle overs.
Kaif said there is no bigger match-winner than Bumrah in the Indian side, and captain Suryakumar Yadav should use this asset ideally.
“He bowled one over in the middle to break a partnership. There is a big gap between his spells. There is no bigger match-winner in this team than Bumrah. They need to bowl him for just one over in the powerplay, and then get him to bowl the 11th or 12th,” he added.
Jasprit Bumrah is now the highest wicket-taker for India in T20 World Cups
With the three wickets Jasprit Bumrah picked against South Africa in the last game, he became India’s highest wicket-taker in ICC T20 World Cups. He dismissed the likes of Quinton de Kock, Ryan Rickelton and later Corbin Bosch to finish with the excellent figures of 3/15.
He left behind former Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin on the wickets tally, who had 32 wickets for them. Bumrah has now picked 33 wickets in 22 matches in the ICC T20 World Cups. He was also the player of the tournament for India in the previous edition, which they won.
