Former BCCI president Sourav Ganguly said that he is looking forward to the upcoming match between India and Pakistan at the T20 World Cup 2026 on Sunday, February 15, in Colombo. Ganguly also shared his excitement about the current Indian squad and revealed the players he enjoys watching the most.

India began their T20 World Cup campaign with a convincing 29-run victory over the United States of America. The Men in Blue travelled to Delhi for their next Group A game against Namibia on February 12. They will then travel to Colombo for their much-anticipated clash against Pakistan on February 15.

It Will Be a Big World Cup Match – Sourav Ganguly on India-Pakistan Clash

Sourav Ganguly said that the clash against Pakistan will be one of the biggest matches of the T20 World Cup. He noted that it will be very difficult for Pakistan to beat India, who are a strong and well-balanced side.

“It will be a big World Cup match. The match is on 15th February, it is not going to be easy for Pakistan to defeat India. India is a very good team,” Sourav Ganguly told ANI in Kolkata.

The Pakistani government had threatened to boycott the match against India. They changed their stance after the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) held talks with the ICC and the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) on Monday, February 9. The clash is now set to take place as scheduled.

Sourav Ganguly said that the T20 World Cup has begun on an exciting note, with every team competing well so far. Ganguly also named his favourite players in the current Indian squad. He picked Abhishek Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, Suryakumar Yadav, and Ishan Kishan as his favourite players.

“The tournament has started really well. So far, it doesn’t look that any team is out of place be it Netherlands, Scotland or Nepal. In the Indian team, Abhishek Sharma, Bumrah, Surya, and Ishan Kishan are my favourites,” he added.

India and Pakistan Build Momentum Ahead of Key T20 World Cup Clash

Pakistan began their T20 World Cup 2026 campaign with a three-wicket win over the Netherlands at the Sinhalese Sports Club in Colombo. They will play their next match at the same venue against the United States of America on Tuesday, February 10.

India, led by Suryakumar Yadav, also opened with a win, defeating the USA by 29 runs at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. The Men in Blue will face Namibia at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Thursday, February 12.

India and Pakistan have met eight times in T20 World Cups, with the Men in Blue holding a 7-1 overall record against their arch-rivals. India also defeated Pakistan in the group-stage match during the previous edition in 2024.

The rivalry has been limited to ICC events and Asia Cups over the past decade due to political tensions. India defeated Pakistan three times in the 2025 Asia Cup in the UAE.
