Shubman Gill’s captaincy rubbished by former BCCI selector after second consecutive series defeat

Former Indian selector Kris Srikkanth has mentioned that Shubman Gill has made many blunders during his captaincy stint with India, especially pointing out several flaws in the bowling changes he made.

India lost the New Zealand series, and the loss really pointed out several flaws within the Indian setup. The Indian batting order struggled in front of the Kiwi batters, especially Rohit Sharma, who failed to convert his starts, while Shreyas Iyer also struggled to get easy runs after his recovery.

However, what has been the biggest concern for India is the form of their two spinners, who turned out to be completely ineffective. The NZ batters have not been threatened for once by the Indian spinners, as a result of which runs kept coming at a free flow in the middle overs.

Ravindra Jadeja, who failed to deliver in the first two games for India with the ball, was not handed the ball until the 29th over of the game. Instead, Shubman Gill sided with Nitish Kumar Reddy after he conceded 37 runs off his 6 overs.

“If Ravindra Jadeja had been brought on to bowl before Nitish Kumar Reddy, he would have exploited some footholes. When Jadeja came on to bowl, New Zealand’s batters were well set,” said Kris Srikkanth.

Speaking of his latest video on his YouTube channel, ‘Cheeky Cheeka,’ the former World Cup winner from India opined that Reddy’s pace did not trouble the Kiwi batters, and they managed to unsettle the hosts.

“Reddy has that ideal pace and was easy to negotiate for them. What Reddy’s bowling did is let New Zealand batters settle. He shouldn’t have been given a long spell. Jadeja should’ve bowled first and then Reddy,” he added.

He pointed out that Kuldeep Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja were letdowns, and on the other hand, Harshit Rana has been leaking runs in his second spell for almost every game.

Kuldeep has been ineffective throughout the series. Jadeja’s bowling has been battered.” – Kris Srikkanth

Srikkanth claimed that both the Indian spinners Ravindra Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav, have turned out to be ineffective in the series. He pointed out that the match slipped away from India’s grip during the middle overs.

“Ravindra Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav were ineffective. Kuldeep has been ineffective throughout the series. Jadeja’s bowling has been battered,” Kris Srikkanth observed. Jadeja went wicketless in the series, and Kuldeep Yadav had only three scalps.

Nitish Kumar Reddy had the chance to bowl eight overs, but even he went on to leak runs during the middle overs, and hence, India choked out on stopping the flow of runs when it mattered the most.

“He has been leaking runs in the second spell,” Srikkanth’s brutal attack on the Indian star

Kris Srikkanth has once again slammed Harshit Rana for his poor show and the acute leakage of runs. Srikkanth marked that Harshit Rana has been leaking runs in his second spell and hence, should be cleared of his overs with the new ball.

“Harshit Rana bowls excellently with the new ball, but leaks runs in his second. If we look at his first spell, he took two wickets with some excellent bowling, but he gave away 84 runs in his 10 overs.”

“Mohammed Siraj has been brilliant and has been bowling consistently well. As usual, Arshdeep Singh somehow takes a wicket in the first over. Rana should even bowl in the 15th or 16th over and should keep only 2-3 of his overs in the end. He has been leaking runs in the second spell,” pointed out the former BCCI selector.

“He batted brilliantly in the second half,” his only words of praise for Harshit Rana.
