Yashasvi Jaiswal is currently a regular in India’s Test XI, as he was already sidelined from the T20I setup, and he only gets ODI chances when Shubam Gill is not available. However, Aakash Chopra felt there is a way for Yashasvi Jaiswal to become an all-format regular for Team India.
Aakash Chopra sets massive IPL target for Yashasvi Jaiswal to break into all formats
Chopra believes that the young opener must deliver a massive IPL season in 2026 if he truly wants to lock his place across three formats of the game, especially white-ball cricket. India is currently gearing up for the three-match ODI series followed by five T20Is against New Zealand.
Jaiswal is part of the ODI squad, but he remains completely out of the T20I setup despite his explosive ability at the top. And the former Indian batter has suggested Jaiswal score more than 700 runs in IPL 2026 to become a regular in India’s white-ball teams.
He believes that such kind of performance would force the Indian selectors to take notice and consider Jaiswal as a serious contender in both ODI and T20I cricket.
Yashasvi will sit out in New Zealand ODIs: Aakash Chopra
Aakash Chopra said on his YouTube channel, “Yashasvi, I have a request for you. I want you to have a 700-run IPL season. Every year, I think it would be like that for you. You are having 400- to 450-run seasons, but that’s not good enough. Not for you, not for your standard. I need a 700-run season so that you break the door and go in. That’s what I expect from him. That’s what I want from him. So Yashasvi should actually become a three-format player sooner than later.”
The cricket pandit felt bad for the left-hander for not being able to play in all three formats, for which he blamed depth and tough competition in the Indian setup.
Chopra further noted, “It’s surprising. It just tells you how much depth there is in India because you are unable to play Yashasvi in all three formats. He is going after scoring an ODI century and will sit out when the match happens now. So that is a reality.”

Post-T20 World Cup turnaround? Chopra makes bold prediction for Yashasvi Jaiswal
The commentator predicted that Jaiswal would be part of India’s white-ball teams regularly after the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2026, starting on February 7 in India and Sri Lanka.
Chopra mentioned, “He is not even coming close in T20Is. He is at least in the team in ODIs but is not in the T20I team. However, it is going to change after the World Cup. I felt it would change before that, but it doesn’t seem like that now. It will change after that, and then he should become a three-format player.”
Despite limited chances, Jaiswal’s international numbers remain impressive. He has already played 28 Tests and four ODIs for India, but he has scored 171 runs in those 50-over games. The young opener has also smashed 723 runs in 22 innings at a stunning strike rate above 164 in T20Is. He has not played a T20I match for the Men in Blue since July 2024.
