“Ruturaj Gaikwad is better than Shreyas Iyer”: India’s No.4 blasted after failure in 2nd ODI vs NZ

Shreyas Iyer TR 1

Shreyas Iyer, the Indian vice-captain, who outsmarted the record books with his consistent show in ODIs, has also not been spared by fans after a slow knock ended too soon against New Zealand in Rajkot. Some have mocked the fine batter for his defensive work rate as well.

India lost the toss after having won it in Vadodara and were asked to bat first by the Kiwi captain. The Indians significantly struggled to bat on this surface, as the bowling has been very accurate and tight from the New Zealand bowlers, especially their spinners.

Though India started off well with a good half-century partnership between the former Indian captain Rohit Sharma and current captain Shubman Gill, with Rohit’s dismissal, the Indian wickets kept falling at regular intervals, and partnerships never looked like they were building.

Shreyas Iyer trolled for one slow innings; Indian fans unleash brutal side

India did not have the quickest of starts, as even Rohit Sharma failed to accelerate in the innings. The pitch has a bit of unconventional bounce, while the New Zealand bowlers have also kept it tight against the Indians.

Virat Kohli was also dismissed following the dismissal of the two openers, and so was Shreyas Iyer. Iyer had to take control of the Indian innings alongside the veteran batter, but he choked under the building pressure of dot balls.

Shreyas played a handful of dot balls and then looked to clear the infield as he lofted a ball over the mid-off fielder; however, the connection was not as desired, and the ball was caught right down the Kiwi captain’s throat.

Virat Kohli’s dream run gets halted in Rajkot

Indian legendary batter Virat Kohli has been in some form of his life after his return to India with the ODI leg of the South Africa series. Virat came into the Rajkot game with 469 runs in his last 5 matches for India and flaunted a tremendous record with an average of 150+.

Kohli started off with his 50+ scoring streak since the last game of the Australian series at the Sydney Cricket Ground. He then followed it with two consecutive centuries and then wrapped the series with a half-century. He also started the New Zealand series with a top-notch 93-run innings, which set the tone for a good start.

However, coming into Rajkot, Kohli’s streak was broken as he was dismissed for just 23 runs this time around. Kohli, who also faced some pressure with dot balls, looked to work one down past the short third man fielder; however, the ball hit the under edge of his bat and was chopped on for a dismissal.
