Rohit Sharma ODI

India National Cricket Team ODI captain Rohit Sharma has put the reports of his retirement from ODI cricket to rest and has started working on his fitness for the upcoming series against the Australia National Cricket Team.

Rohit linked up with the former India assistant coach and his good friend, Abhishek Nayar, in the gym to start his preparations for the Australia series.

Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma to retire from ODIs very soon?

Rohit and Virat Kohli announced their retirement from Test before the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025, and made themselves available as single-format players.

They were last seen in action in international cricket during the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 triumph, where the duo delivered amazing performances to help India lift the championship.

Rohit and Kohli were expected to make their return to international cricket in the Bangladesh tour, but that white-ball series was postponed by the BCCI due to political instability in the neighbouring country.

Then, it was reported that a white-ball series was planned between the BCCI and SLC, which would have seen the comebacks of Rohit and Kohli, but that too didn’t take place.

The duo are now expected to make their comebacks in the Australia tour, and a recent report in Dainik Jagran claimed that it would be the last ODI series for Rohit and Kohli.

It was reported that the legendary batters would retire from ODI cricket after the series because of the mandate received from BCCI to play the Vijay Hazare Trophy to prove their credentials in the 50-over format.

Rohit Sharma returns to training

Another report in PTI suggested that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has issued no such directive to Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli to play the Vijay Hazare Trophy, and they would rather want the duo to play India A matches.

Also, it was reported that the BCCI is least worried about Rohit and Kohli and is fully focused on the immediate challenge, which is the Asia Cup 2025.

Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma himself put the retirement rumours to rest by resuming training in the gym alongside Abhishek Nayar, and it was a hint that he is in no mood to quit ODI cricket.

Notably, Rohit took a break after the Indian Premier League (IPL) and went to the UK, where he was also seen attending the England vs India fifth Test at the Kennington Oval in London.

Talking about Abhishek Nayar, he was recently removed from the Gautam Gambhir-led support staff and went on to rejoin the KKR camp for IPL 2025 before moving on to UP Warriorz as their head coach ahead of the next season of Women’s Premier League (WPL).
