Reflecting on a fan’s statement regarding Ravichandran Ashwin not giving sufficient credit to Indian legend Virat Kohli for the 2024 ICC T20 World Cup win, the former Indian spinner claimed that he had a great laugh with Virat Kohli on the matter.
Former cricketers have recently transformed into cricket experts. This has been the latest trend in the game, while Indian players like Ravichandran Ashwin, who are well aware of the current dressing room dynamics, are often in the mix-up and have grown to be one of the major voices for cricket in India.
Such a controversy erupted when Ashwin reflected on his views towards the ICC T20 World Cup final, and a staunch Virat Kohli fan was affected by his idol not getting the worthy hype he deserved for the match-winning knock in the final.
Ravichandran Ashwin’s remarks on India’s 2024 T20 World Cup triumph
Ravichandran Ashwin is often known for his remarks on Indian cricket through his YouTube channel Ash ki Baat. During such a conversation, he spoke about the T20 World Cup 2024 final from his perspective.
Ashwin neglected India’s batting front, which helped them take the score to 176, which led the bowlers to stage a fightback. Instead, he opted for a bowling masterclass from Jasprit Bumrah and the catch from Suryakumar Yadav to be the real factors that won the match for India.
Adding to the conversation, he largely credited Rohit Sharma for having changed the dynamic of white-ball cricket in India, a thing for which the former Indian skipper is often praised. The former legendary Indian spinner did not take Virat Kohli’s name while addressing the architects behind India’s win.
Indian fan alleges Ravichandran Ashwin is biased
A fan with the ID “Rajiv1841,” who seemed to be one of the millions of fans Virat Kohli has earned through an illustrious career for India, came to protest against Ravichandran Ashwin’s bias against Virat Kohli.
He claimed that how could Ashwin take away the credit of the World Cup final triumph from the designated ICC T20 World Cup final’s player of the match, Virat Kohli? Kohli, who played the final T20I match of his career, had probably played the most crucial innings of his lifetime in that game.
He then went on to claim that it is understandable since, Ashwin was picked into the squad by skipper Rohit Sharma for the 2022 ICC T20 World Cup and the 2023 ICC ODI World Cup when he was nowhere near the white-ball formats, but on the contrary, Virat had dropped him a number of times and had also seen his way out of the white-ball team.
He stirred up a controversy, saying that it is understandable that Rohit and Ashwin are friends, and he holds grudges against the legend, Virat Kohli. He also claimed that Ashwin praising Kohli on his centuries is because he has to appreciate him, or else he would get called out.
Ravichandran Ashwin thanks fans for giving him a reason to bond further with Virat Kohli
After the comments were made, widespread speculations had started to build around the relationship between the two star Indian cricketers. However, bringing an end to all narratives, Ashwin tweeted that he had a word with Virat Kohli on the fan coming in to defend him against an indirect attack.
He shared that the two had a laugh over how the fan wars are often escalated on social media, and the two former Indian teammates got a fairly good reason to talk and bond over.
“Just spoke to Virat about “Rajiv1841’s” concern on the indirect attack, and we both had a good laugh about how social media works on such clickbait fan wars. Thanks for giving us a reason to bond and talk,” Ashwin wrote on his X handle.
