Former India cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin dismissed former Pakistan pacer Mohammad Amir’s view on Abhishek Sharma’s batting style. Amir labelled the Indian opener ‘slogger’, refusing to describe him as a pure batter.
Through a YouTube video, Ravichandran Ashwin explains that Sharma’s bat swing is even better than that of Yuvraj Singh. According to Ashwin, the opener has one of the most enviable bat swings in cricket.
Team India confirmed a commanding win over Zimbabwe
Team India got a much-needed clinical win against Zimbabwe on February 26 in Chennai. Abhishek Sharma, who recorded a hat-trick of ducks in the group stage of the ongoing T20 World Cup 2026, returning to his original form, smashed 55 off 30, powered by four 4s and four 6s.
Securing a total of 256 in the first innings, the Men in Blue outclassed Zimbabwe by a 72-run margin. The win over the Chevrons not only keeps the team’s semi-finals possibilities alive, but also helps Sharma to get rid of the long-standing run drought.
“Abhishek Sharma is not a slogger”: Ravichandran Ashwin
After the match, Ravichandran Ashwin stated that no matter what people said about the batter, he is not just a slogger, as he has the most admirable bat swings among all the cricketers across the globe.
“You can say anything about Abhishek Sharma’s game, but he is NOT a slogger. He has one of the most enviable bat swings in cricket, even better than his mentor, Yuvraj Singh. His only guilt is showing intent on every ball”, Ashwin on his YouTube channel ‘Ash Ki Baat’.

He has probably got a better bat swing than him as well. You cannot get a better bat swing than that. Whenever Abhishek strikes the ball, it goes very far. So people can mistake him for being a slogger. The one thing Abhishek has been guilty of is showing intent on every ball,” he further added.
On March 1, India will face the West Indies at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata in another must-win clash. The Indian team management will again wish to see another explosive knock from the Punjab-born. If Sharma is able to continue his recently recovered form, then the co-host of the T20 World Cup 2026 may have an extra edge over the power-packed West Indies cricket team, the former champions of the T20 World Cup.
Ravichandran Ashwin issued advice to Sharma ahead of the India vs West Indies match
Ahead of the India vs West Indies match, Ashwin shares some advice to the left-handed batter. The former spinner advises the batter to pay attention to the timing of hitting the ball, instead of generating extra power behind every hit.
“Abhishek doesn’t have to give power on his shots. If anyone is talking to him, just tell him about the importance of timing the ball properly”, Ravichandran Ashwin said to the batter.
Like Ashwin, Former Pakistan skipper Mohammad Hafeez also disagreed with what Mohammad Amir assessed about the Indian batsman. Hafeez also said that Shamra is not just a slogger.
