India National Cricket Team captain Suryakumar Yadav has been one of the best T20I captains the game has ever seen. If Suryakumar Yadav manages to lead the national side to the T20 World Cup 2026 title, he will stamp his authority as one of the rarest T20I captains.
Since taking over from Rohit Sharma as India’s T20I captain in July 2024 following the team’s second T20 World Cup title, the side has been on fire, as Suryakumar and Gautam Gambhir’s pair has been unbeaten in the bilateral series.
Suryakumar Yadav becomes India’s No.1 T20I captain in win percentage
Even in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2026, the Mumbaikar has already taken the defending champions to the semifinals, where they will face England on March 5 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. However, the skipper has been inconsistent as a batter in the showpiece event.

After guiding the defending champions to a five-wicket win over the West Indies in a Super 8 clash in Kolkata, Suryakumar Yadav has now become India’s most successful T20I captain in terms of win percentage.
His win rate has touched around 81 percent (80.8%), surpassing Rohit Sharma’s record of 79.83 percent in T20I cricket. This is a massive achievement in such a short time.

Aakash Chopra questions Suryakumar Yadav’s World Cup record
Meanwhile, Suryakumar Yadav has scored 231 runs in the ongoing tournament, but his overall World Cup record has raised questions. Aakash Chopra pointed out that this is SKY’s fourth T20 World Cup and fifth World Cup overall, but he has only a few half-centuries, and those too are against smaller teams.
Aakash Chopra said on his YouTube channel, “I was looking at Suryakumar Yadav’s numbers. When you check his World Cup numbers, you find that his overall numbers are excellent. He has scored two half-centuries against the USA, out of which one was very important. It was a phenomenal knock. But outside of the associate nations or the minnows, with due respect, he actually has only two half-centuries in the World Cups.”
He further added, “This is his fourth T20 World Cup. If we include the ODI one, this is his fifth World Cup, but only two half-centuries have come against good big teams. One came against South Africa in Perth, and the other came against Afghanistan in the last World Cup.”
