No, I am all good: Mitchell Santner takes swipe at Swiggy after falling sick

Mitchell Santner takes swipe at Swiggy after getting sick during group stage

Mitchell Santner takes swipe at Swiggy: New Zealand have been one of the favourites for the 2026 T20 World Cup. They have been lethal with their batting, however, the bowling for the Kiwis have not been fire powered. Their first match of the Super 8 against Pakistan was washed out without a ball being bowled.

Ahead of the next game against Sri Lanka, New Zealand captain Mitchell Santer has dropped a funny comment on the experience of ordering food in India. The Kiwi skipper missed a group stage game against Canada last Tuesday due to illness caused by the ‘Dodgy Burger’ as then mentioned by stand-in captain Daryl Mitchell.

‘It didn’t work out, so I haven’t done that since’- Mitchell Santner

Mitchell Santner was asked ‘And you yourself, have you been steering clear of any fast food?’ Mitchell Santner replied “Yeah, I’ve ordered Swiggy once this trip and it didn’t work out, so I haven’t done that since. So, no, I’m all good. We’ve obviously got one more night to get through, but we’ll see.”

Mitchell Santner was recently in an exclusive chat with the Cricbuzz during the T20 World Cup 2026. He talked about bowling to the left handers and also managing the leadership of the side alongside bowling his four over spells.

‘Yeah, I guess the challenge these days is the smaller grounds’- Mitchell Santner

The Kiwi skipper was asked about the T20 landscape being obsessed with big hitting and mystery, and how he had kept the art of left-arm orthodox bowling relevant and, in many ways, made it appealing again, and how he had managed that.

Santer replied, “Yeah, I guess the challenge these days is the smaller grounds and, like you said, the big hitting. I think there’s still a place for finger spin with accuracy. For me, I guess, it’s trying to deceive the batsman through flight and changes of pace versus off the wicket.”

“The key is being able to adapt and see what is going to be the most threatening on a surface. You get a couple of flat wickets in India, it might be playing more of a defensive role, trying to get wickets that way.”

“Then you come to a ground like here in Colombo where there is a bit of spin and you can play more of an attacking role, bowl more of your stock ball for longer, less variations, stuff like that.”

New Zealand underdogs or favourites for T20 World Cup?

New Zealand has been playing a fearless brand of cricket in the tournament. They have been one of the sides that have been dominating all the formats consistently. The Kiwis have reached the four finals of the last nine ICC tournaments across formats and have won only once.

Mitchell Santner’s side will be facing Sri Lanka in their next Super 8 game on Wednesday, 25th February, at the R Premedasa Stadium, Colombo. This will be a must win game for both sides, as co-hosts Sri Lanka lost by a margin of 51 runs and the Black Caps have one point after their game was washed out.

The Kiwi batters especially the openers Tim Seifert and Finn Allen would look to take charge from the very first ball. The two batters have been in sensational form coming to this World Cup.
