Former England all-rounder Moeen Ali had announced his decision to retire from English cricket at the end of 2025; however, he has reportedly reversed his retirement and signed a domestic contract with Yorkshire in the T20 Blast.
Cricketers have now taken the chance to feature in franchise cricket more often by announcing their retirement from international cricket. Many cricketers have announced early retirements in order to make themselves available for all franchise cricket leagues. Such players include Nicholas Pooran and Quinton de Kock.
However, another recent trend has marked players reversing their retirement to return to international cricket, like QDK recently did for South Africa. Moeen Ali had also previously reversed international retirement to return to English domestic cricket.

Another year and another reversal of retirement. However, the 38-year-old English cricketer has not turned back to international cricket as of now. This time, he has announced his return to domestic cricket in England.
Last year, in 2025, Moeen Ali announced that he would not be playing professional cricket in England. Instead, Moeen was seen playing the shortest format of the game around the globe in several franchise tournaments, which included the CPL, ILT20 and the BPL as well.
However, a recent report from ESPNcricinfo has revealed that Moeen has now signed a deal to play for Yorkshire in this year’s T20 Blast. The deal is a one-year deal with extension options available for one more year.

Moeen Ali’s convincing performance in the ILT20 2025
The former English all-rounder was once known as the master of T20 cricket in the nation. He has even represented England in T20Is, having quite an impactful career that spanned over 92 games. He amassed 1229 runs in those matches and also picked 51 wickets with the ball.
Having played franchise cricket mainly in India and England, Moeen Ali has scored 3178 runs in the Vitality Blast T20 in 126 career games and 1167 runs in 73 matches in the IPL. While he is just one short of 100 T20 Blast wickets, he has picked 41 wickets in the IPL.
Having played for the Sharjah Warriors, Moeen Ali was yet to fire up with the bat, which he finally did for the Gulf Giants. He amassed 251 runs in 9 games and picked 2 wickets in the season. His best innings came in the last game against the Abu Dhabi Knight Riders.
Moeen took a break from IPL to feature in PSL for the 2026 season
After a decent career in the IPL during his international playing days, the former English all-rounder is slowly losing his priority in the IPL. Having left the CSK camp, Moeen has not been able to deliver at his very best.
He was signed by the Kolkata Knight Riders and played a handful of games last season. However, the great Englishman failed to deliver with the bat despite being tried at several positions and was hammered when he came to bowl.
He was then released by the Knight Riders ahead of the IPL 2025 mini-auction. He then decided to withdraw from the IPL auction pool and make a switch to the PSL for the upcoming season. He has amassed 138 runs in 9 matches in the PSL season of 2020-21.
