Australian speedster Mitchell Starc picked a total of 31 wickets in the Ashes series, which earned him the fame as the best bowler on show, and he was crowned the ICC Player of the Month for December 2025.
Aussies beat England in the home Ashes as they dominated the three Lions with a splendid show across the series. Australia finished 4-1, and the due credit goes to Mitchell Starc, one of the most experienced campaigners in the Aussies’ lineup.
Australia did not have the services of their pace veterans Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood; hence, it was entirely on Starc to make it up to the fierce English batting lineup. Alongside Scott Boland, Starc did the best he could do for Australia, as the Aussies won three consecutive matches between November and December.
Mitchell Starc named the ICC Player of the Month for December 2025
Australia’s Mitchell Starc deserved every bit to be the ICC Player of the Month for December after having led the Aussies in a commanding Ashes contest. Starc, who started off the Ashes on a brilliant note in Perth, had picked up 10 wickets in the Ashes opener.
He then backed his performance with another 8 wickets with the pink ball in the second Test at Brisbane and then picked 4 scalps each in Adelaide and Melbourne. With 16 wickets, Starc finished the month of December on a dominant note.
He won the POTM award from the ICC after having left behind the likes of likely contenders in West Indies’ Justin Greaves, who scored a maiden double-century, and New Zealand’s Jacob Duffy, who picked 25 wickets against West Indies in the same series.
Mitchell Starc’s standout Ashes performance with both bat and ball
Mitchell Starc, the left-arm pacer, picked 31 wickets throughout the Ashes, which spanned between November and January. The 35-year-old picked 10 wickets in Perth, eight more at the Gabba, four each in Adelaide and the MCG and lastly 5 wickets across the two innings in Sydney.
Mitchell Starc had also performed equally well with the bat, as he scored two half-centuries, one at the Gabba in Brisbane and the next one in Adelaide. This helped Australia with an unassailable 3-0 lead in the Ashes series.
“It’s an honour to be named the ICC Player of the Month, and even more special that it came on the back of such a successful home Ashes. To have played a part in winning such an iconic series in front of our home crowd is something we will all relish for a long time,” Starc said.
Starc ended Australia’s two-year wait for an ICC Player of the Month award
Mitchell Starc received the player of the series award in the Ashes. He was then crowned the ICC Player of the Month for the first time in his illustrious Test career. The Australian is a true veteran in the format with 400+ wickets.
Starc won the ICC Men’s Player of the Month award for the first time in December 2025, which ended the two-year-long wait for Australia to have their hands on the award after Pat Cummins last won it back in December 2023.
