Mitchell Starc

Mitchell Starc has once again proved that age is nothing more than a number with his heroic contribution in Australia’s 4-1 Ashes 2025-26 triumph over England at home. After the 35-year-old fast bowler made headlines with raw pace, stamina, and match-winning impact in this Ashes, he opened up about his retirement plans from Test cricket.

Mitchell Starc shuts down retirement talks after Ashes triumph

Amidst constant talk around age and workload, Mitchell Starc showed no signs of slowing down. The left-arm pacer said that the thrill of wearing the baggy green continues to drive him, and he feels there is still plenty left in the tank, hinting at traveling to England for the Ashes 2027.

The Australian star has stressed that as long as he believes he can make a real difference and help Australia win, he will not consider retiring from the game. Starc was quoted as saying by SEN Cricket, “I obviously haven’t had a chance to think of it yet.”

He added, “I think just putting on a baggy green is incentive enough to keep going. While I’m still able to play a role in this group, and I feel like I can contribute in major ways, I’d love to keep going out there and emptying the tank for the team.”

Having retired from T20I cricket in September 2025 to focus on Test and ODI cricket, especially keeping in mind the 2027 ODI World Cup, Starc wants to use the break wisely.

He explained, “Without T20 cricket now, I’ve got a chance just to sit back and reflect on a few weeks, maybe rebuild the body a little bit, and go again. I’ll sit back and watch the women’s team do their thing against India and see the guys do their stuff over in India as well.”

No expiry date on people: Starc takes aim at AGE debate

Mitchell Starc also addressed the growing discussion around age in modern sport. He made it clear that there should be no fixed expiry date for players.

He signed off by saying, “I think there’s been so much made of the age profile. Sports have changed, and life has changed. There’s no reason guys can’t go longer, or there’s no end date on people. As I said, while you’re contributing, or while you’re in the best group of players, why do you have to put a cap on a guy or a girl if you’re a certain age?”

Mitchell Starc turns back the clock to rule the Ashes again

Mitchell Starc was one of the biggest heroes of the 2025–26 Ashes series. The senior pacer played all five Test matches without a single break, which is a massive challenge for any fast bowler, especially in a long and intense Ashes battle. He bowled more than 150 overs across the five-match Test series and still kept his pace high, regularly touching speeds above 140 kmph.

His impact was not limited to bowling alone, as he also chipped in with two valuable half-centuries, proving his all-round worth to the team. Yet, there was no sign of fatigue, only control, rhythm, and hunger, and the numbers show how he made the impact.

Starc picked up 31 wickets, including two five-wicket hauls, at an average of 19.94. He won two Player of the Match awards and finished as the Player of the Series, earning the Compton–Miller Medal. Starc has now won Player of the Series awards in both England and Australia in the Ashes.

At an age when many players start slowing down, Starc looked strong, fresh, and fully in control. This Ashes wasn’t just another series for him, but the fiery speedster reminded everyone why he remains one of the most trusted and dangerous weapons in Test cricket.
