Australian T20I captain Mitchell Marsh shut the critics, ending his lean patch in this edition of the BBL with a smashing hundred. The century finally came after a string of low scores in this year’s Big Bash League, and it has come out at the right time for the Australian T20I captain.
The most successful franchise, the Perth Scorchers, started the BBL with a win against the Sydney Sixers and could manage just two wins in the season of first four games. With a massive net run rate, they are currently placed in the third position behind the Melbourne Stars and Hobart Hurricanes.
The Perth Scorchers have been led by Australian white-ball skipper Mitchell Marsh. Though he is playing the entire season, Marsh has not had promising runs off his bat. However, he finally broke the shackles as he played in the fifth match for the Scorchers.
Mitchell Marsh amazes the BBL crowd with a scintillating hundred
Two of the top three players from the Perth Scorchers batting order have been named in the final squad for the ICC T20 World Cup today, on the 1st of January. Mitchell Marsh has been named the skipper of the side, while Cooper Connolly is all set to play his maiden innings in an ICC tournament.
Mitchell Marsh, whose bat has been silent this season after coming off an exceptional year with the bat in international limited-overs cricket, showed glimpses of his fine form and brute force in the fifth match against defending champions Hobart Hurricanes.
Opening the innings against the Hurricanes, Marsh was off to a flying start, and the Bison continued his onslaught even after the power play ended. Marsh scored 102 runs off 58 balls and was dismissed by the opponent skipper, Nathan Ellis, in the final over of the game.

Mitchell Marsh shuts critics ahead of the T20 World Cup
Mitchell Marsh was named the skipper of the Australian side, despite Pat Cummins, the former skipper’s return to the T20I XI. This decision was rightly made after the selectors considered Marsh’s leadership to be fruitful for the young team.
Also, Pat Cummins’ availability for every match of the tournament remains in doubt, and Marsh has been captaining the side in his absence for a long time. Showing a slight dip in form, Marsh was doubted to continue his stellar form into the World Cup.
However, just hours after his appointment as the captain of the side, Marsh is to lead in his first-ever ICC tournament. This century is a warning sign for all oppositions, giving glimpses of his brute force and what impact it can have on the smaller boundaries of the subcontinent.
Aaron Hardie misses out on a well-deserved BBL century
All-rounder Aaron Hardie came in to bat at no. 4 for the Perth Scorchers. Finn Allen and in-form batter Cooper Connolly failed to partner alongside Marsh on this occasion; however, Hardie backed his captain with further brute hitting.
94* unbeaten off just 43 balls, Hardie struck at nearly 220 and nailed 5 sixes in the innings to add to his 9 fours. Having taken runs off Nathan Ellis in the final over of the game, he could not reach his maiden century in the BBL.
However, before the T20 World Cup, such impactful innings from the Western Australian all-rounder will push George Bailey to reconsider his team selections for the marquee tournament in India.
