‘It does not matter if they come ‘- Krishnamachari Srikkanth offers a blunt verdict on Pakistan’s Boycott Threat: The India vs Pakistan match is the marquee match of the 2026 T20 World Cup. However, there is a fiasco that has been going on between the two nations. After Pakistan announced that they will be playing the T20 World Cup, but will not take the field against India, a social media post was made on Sunday by the Pakistan government on the following matter.
Since then, many former players and pundist have shared their views on the ongoing rift between the two countries. Now, former India World Cup winner Krishnamachari Srikkanth has dropped his comments on the controversy between India and Pakistan.
Krishnamachari Srikkanth take funny jab at Pakistan
He made a big statement on the threat that Pakistan poses if they do not play against India. He believes that Pakistan is scared of India, and the match would anyway be a ‘walkover’ for Suryakumar Yadav’s side; he also mocked the arch-rivals as well.
While speaking on the YouTube channel of ‘Cheeky Cheeka’, Krishnamachari Srikkanth said, “Empty vessels make more noise. Pakistan are scared. Now, in the U19 World Cup also they lost. So they are thinking of giving a walkover. Whether they play or not, the game is anyway a walkover for India. It does not matter if they come or not. Asia Cup, they played all the games against India.”
Pakistan’s chances look grim
The match is scheduled on 15th February at the R Premedasa Stadium, Colombo. This will be the 9th time that the two teams will meet each other in the T20 World Cup competition, with India having the upper hand, winning 7 out of their last 8 meetings in the competitions and Pakistan has just a solitary victory dated back to 2021.
Pakistan remains in its stance of not featuring against India; however, they are not getting any support from other board members as well. Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) also did not submit any formal letter to the International Cricket Council (ICC) regarding this matter, as a social media post is not considered to be formal by the apex body.
Krishnamachari Srikkanth picks World Cup finalist
Krishnamachari Srikkanth, except for speaking on the row of India vs Pakistan, also talked about the possible semi-finalists of the World Cup and the favourites of the tournament as well. He said, “I think India, England, South Africa and Australia will play the semifinals. I think the finals should be between India and Australia. They will be the closest competitor to India.”
Krishnamachari Srikkanth believes Australia, alongside India are similar powerhouse, and also voiced concerns about the Aussie bowling attack and their ability to defend totals. Krishnamachari Srikkanth said, “Travis Head, Mitchell Marsh, Tim David, Maxwell and Green. If any two of these five get going, they have a powerhouse batting just like India, in all fairness. But there is no scope in their bowling.”
As three days remain for the mega T20 event to take place in India and Sri Lanka, the teams gear up, and the excitement for the fans also grows as India will lock horns against the USA in the final game of the first day.
