KKR to pay Mustafizur Rahman INR 9.20 crore despite IPL exit? Report drops BOMB

KKR and Mustafizur Rahman

As per the norms of the BCCI and the IPL, all foreign players are insured, and they get 50 percent of their payment from insurance. Normally, when foreign players are injured after joining the camp, they are paid by the franchise, but in Mustafizur Rahman‘s case, the INR 9.2 crore player will not be paid a penny by KKR.

Mustafizur Rahman, the Bangladesh cricket star’s snub, has already stirred up several controversies in world cricket and has also complicated the relationship between the two boards, BCCI and BCB. The infuriated BCB have asked the ICC to shift their matches in the T20 World Cup to Sri Lanka.

Mustafizur Rahman entered the IPL mini-auction with a base price of INR 2 crore and was eventually bought for a whopping INR 9.20 crore by the Kolkata Knight Riders following their intense bidding war with the Chennai Super Kings.

Salaries of IPL players are insured

As per the latest details revealed about the salaries offered to IPL players, it has been learned that the salaries of players are insured. Especially for foreign players, they get paid even if they do not star in the season but are ruled out due to injuries sustained after joining the designated squad.

“The salaries of all IPL players are insured. For foreign international players, normally the franchise pays if he is injured after joining the camp or during the course of the tournament.

“Normally, up to 50 percent is paid from insurance. It is better for India‘s injured centrally contracted cricketers who normally get paid by the BCCI,” an IPL source in the know of things told PTI on condition of anonymity.

However, considering the current framework of insurance, there is no room for financial compensation for Mustafizur Rahman, since he has been released ahead of joining the squad with the Knight Riders.

How much money will KKR have to pay Mustafizur Rahman despite the IPL snub?

Bangladesh star Mustafizur is unlikely to receive any financial compensation for being released by the KKR franchise, as his case does not fall under the standard clauses of the insurance. His release was not linked with injuries or any other reason that is concerned to cricket, hence, contractually, KKR are not bound to pay him any amount.

“In case of an insurance claim, this current situation isn’t covered so KKR are under no official obligation to pay a penny.

As to how things stand now, despite being a high-value acquisition and having no disciplinary or professional breach, Mustafizur would still be unfortunate enough to walk empty-handed.

Mustafizur Rahman to file legal complaint against BCCI over IPL snub

In another major revelation, the source mentioned that Mustafizur Rahman could opt for a legal route against the BCCI and the KKR to extract any compensation, but under such circumstances, his chances of returning to the league in the future would be ruined.

“It is unfortunate, but Mustafiz doesn’t have much option but to take a legal route, and the IPL also comes under Indian law jurisdiction. No overseas cricketer would want to go through this or take the Court of Arbitration of Sport (CAS) route,” the source said.

He added that since the Indo-Bangladesh feud does not look as rigid as the Indo-Pakistan political scenario, it would be wise for Mustafiz not to take any legal action and ruin his prospects to return to one of the highest-paying franchise league tournaments in the world.
