India National Cricket Team pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah has finally broken his silence on his availability for the upcoming Asia Cup 2025, which will be held in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
According to a report in the Indian Express, Jasprit Bumrah has officially communicated his decision to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) selection committee regarding his availability for the marquee tournament.
Bumrah has informed the selectors that he… – BCCI source
Earlier, it was reported that Jasprit Bumrah could skip the Asia Cup 2025 to ensure that he is fully fit for the home Test series against West Indies.
Notably, the final of the Asia Cup 2025 will be held on September 28, and India’s Test series against the West Indies will start on October 2, followed by the second match from October 10.
If India made it to the final, the turnaround time for Jasprit Bumrah would have been very short, and his workload management strategy could have been affected.
However, as per the new report, Bumrah has informed the Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee that he is available to play the Asia Cup 2025.
“Bumrah has informed the selectors that he will be available for the Asia Cup selection. The selection committee will meet and discuss it when they meet next week,” the source said as quoted by the Indian Express.
Jasprit Bumrah under fire for workload management
Bumrah has been at the receiving end of heavy criticism due to his workload management plans in the recently concluded Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025.
He featured in three out of five Test matches in order to manage his workload and avoid any injuries. Before the series, it was decided that Bumrah would play three games, and he received the BCCI’s approval.
He played first, third, and fourth games at Headingley in Leeds, Lord’s in London, and Old Trafford in Manchester, where he bowled 119.4 overs and picked 14 wickets.
Meanwhile, Jasprit Bumrah wouldn’t have to worry about his workload in the Asia Cup 2025 because it will be played in T20I format, and he will have to bowl short spells.
India’s UAE travel plan revealed
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) selectors and other officials will meet in Mumbai on Tuesday, August 19, to pick the squad for the continental tournament.
Once the squad is selected for the Asia Cup 2025, which will be played from September 9 to 28, the team will leave for the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
The Suryakumar Yadav & Co. will leave for the UAE early to acclimatise to the conditions. Notably, Indian players will take part in the competition without much game time under their belt, and the BCCI had also asked team management whether they were in favour of a short camp in Bengaluru.
“Instead of having a camp here, the team will fly three-four days early so that they can get decent practice before the tournament starts,” the source said.
