Ishan Kishan reveals why he doesn’t like Jasprit Bumrah

'He’ll bowl a barrage of bouncers later'- Ishan Kishan reveals the secret of success for star Indian pacer

Ishan Kishan has been showcasing blistering form since his return to international cricket. He scored 215 runs in the recently concluded 5-match series against New Zealand. He came back to the T20I side after December 2023. After a long gap of two years, performance in the domestic cricket helped him regain his confidence, which he displayed in the series versus the Kiwis.

He has been spotted in a recently uploaded video by 2 Sloggers on their YouTube channel, where he has been found talking about his old memories and the funny dressing room moments he shared. In the podcast, after being asked who the toughest bowler he faced was, he responded by saying Jasprit Bumrah and Yuzvendra Chahal.

Only Jasprit Bumrah can trouble Ishan Kishan

Ishan stated that Bumrah is the toughest bowler he’s faced when facing him in the IPL, but in doing so, he revealed a secret of the Indian speedster. Ishan said that whenever Bumrah is present, whether during a game or in the nets, Bumrah delivers his 100% on the field. Bumrah is not afraid to bowl a bouncer to his own teammates in net sessions.

Speaking on the podcast on the YouTube channel, he said, “Among spinners, I find Yuzi bhai [Yuzvendra Chahal] tough to play; I think he’s figured me out. In pace, I mean, no one is better than [Jasprit] Bumrah bhai. Let me tell you a story. Bura maan jayenge. (He may feel upset) that I say this everywhere. When we practice, we often get different wickets. Some will be grassy, others will be dry. But whenever it’s grassy, usually the bowlers go easy on batters, but Bumrah doesn’t believe in it. If a batter middles the ball, you know he’ll bowl a barrage of bouncers later.”

Ishan Kishan always keeps the mood light

Jasprit Bumrah and Ishan Kishan were long teammates when the latter was a part of the Mumbai Indians (MI) in the Premier League (IPL) from 2018 to 2024. In 2025, he was picked by Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), where he scored 354 runs for the Orange Army.

During the podcast h also mentioned the funny side of Shubman Gill and how he and the current ODI captain are mates, and how they create the funny moment, and former India captain Rohit Sharma as well. In the video, he also mentioned the funniest moment with Rohit Sharma during the 2023 Sri Lanka ODI series, when he was dropped and did not play after scoring a double century.

Ishan Kishan set to open for India

Ishan Kishan scored one fifty and one century in the 5-match series, but the intent with which he batted was breathtaking to watch. More importantly, the reliability he showed in the second T20I when he scored a fiery knock of 76 runs off 32 balls when India were struggling at 6/2 while chasing a target of 209 runs.

The Southpaw has been in a purple patch, and, being a wicket-keeper, he is the frontrunner to open the innings for India alongside Abhishek Sharma, dropping Sanju Samson from the side, who had been in poor touch in recent times.
