The fate of the India vs Pakistan Group A clash at the ongoing T20 World Cup 2026 took yet another fresh turn as the International Cricket Council (ICC) has demanded clear answers from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) over their controversial and politically influenced decision.
PCB seeks Force Majeure to skip India vs Pakistan clash in T20 World Cup 2026
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) asked the International Cricket Council (ICC) to use the Force Majeure rule so they could skip the India vs Pakistan match on February 15, which is scheduled at the neutral venue of R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.
They cited a Pakistan government tweet that instructed them to avoid facing the Indian cricket team in their T20 World Cup 2026 match in Colombo. Using this social media post by the government, the PCB wants to activate the ‘Force Majeure’ clause, making the situation beyond their control.

ICC questions Pakistan’s demand for skipping India match
Now, in its response, as reported by several media outlets, the ICC asked the PCB for justification on how the Force Majeure clause can be invoked to justify their decision to skip only one match while still taking part in the rest of the T20 World Cup 2026 in the same country—Sri Lanka.
The ICC and PCB have reportedly agreed to hold talks over the high-profile yet sensitive clash in the tournament. But the global body wants clarity on why the PCB decided to withdraw only from the India vs Pakistan fixture and what steps they took to justify the government’s instructions.
The ICC also mentioned the strict rules for when the force majeure clause can actually be used, including the kind of evidence needed to support non-participation. They highlighted that such a move carries serious consequences for the tournament, including commercial and its governance.
Talks underway as ICC stresses fair process and dialogue
Still, the ICC made it clear that it is committed to following proper procedures and respecting contracts while keeping the door open for dialogue with Pakistan to find a solution without compromising the integrity of the tournament.
A source was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz: “ICC, while dealing first with Bangladesh and then with Pakistan, has acted with neutrality and fairness with the intention of preserving the sanctity of its global events and governance. It has prioritised dialogue over dispute, put fan and player welfare first and ensured objectivity is at the heart of its decision-making.”
Now, all eyes are now on the outcome of the ongoing discussions where they are trying to find a solution.
Force Majeure Explained
Force majeure is a contract rule that lets a team skip or delay obligations when something extraordinary happens that they cannot control, like natural disasters, wars, government orders, or emergencies.
To use this, the incident must be unexpected and unavoidable, and the team must have tried their best to reduce the impact. Ordinary problems or political decisions usually don’t count.
