India has taken a thoughtful step in the middle of the T20 World Cup 2026 as injury worries continue to surround the team. Ahead of their next match against Namibia, the Indian cricket team has reportedly decided to cancel their scheduled practice session in Delhi on February 9.
The Men in Blue began their T20 World Cup 2026 campaign on a positive note with a comfortable 29-run win over the USA at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on February 7. Their next game is against Namibia on February 12 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.
Injury concerns force Indian cricket team management to be careful
For this game, they don’t want to put much effort into the practice. Actually, India has already suffered a big setback with the young pacer Harshit Rana being ruled out of the T20 World Cup 2026. Rana picked up a right knee injury during a warm-up match against South Africa on February 4 and is now out of the mega event. Mohammed Siraj replaced him in the squad.
There are more fitness concerns as well. Jasprit Bumrah missed the opening match against the USA due to illness, which raised fresh worries about India’s pace attack. On a positive note, Washington Sundar has been declared fit and is expected to rejoin the squad in New Delhi soon.

Young batter Tilak Varma has also recently returned after recovering from surgery in early January. With several players either recovering or just returning to full fitness, the Indian cricket team management does not want to take any risk during the tournament.
To avoid further injuries and manage workload, the decision was taken to skip practice before their group clash against Namibia in Delhi. A journalist revealed on X by saying, “Team India won’t have a practice session in Delhi tomorrow.” However, Namibia began training in Delhi.

Suryakumar Yadav and Mohammed Siraj rescue India
Meanwhile, India was put under pressure by the USA in their opening match of the T20 World Cup 2026 but still managed to win by 29 runs at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. The co-hosts had a very poor start after being asked to bat first on Saturday.
They slipped to 46 for 4 in the power play. Abhishek Sharma got out on the first ball, while Shadley van Schalkwyk caused big trouble by taking three wickets in one over. The USA bowlers kept things tight and did not allow India to score freely.
