There is famous dialogue from the Bollywood movie ‘Baazigar’—”Haar Kar Jeetne Wale Ko Baazigar Kehte Hai (Those who win after losing are called gamblers).” Nepal’s Lokesh Bam is the new ‘Baazigar’ in town. The way he batted against the mighty England side made an entire nation believe that even they had the potential to pull off an upset.
Against a challenge total of England, Nepal went very, very close to chasing it down. Eventually, England won the match by only 4 runs, but Nepal and Lokesh successfully won the hearts of countless cricket fans today (February 8).
Nepal’s Lokesh Bam is the new posterboy
The England cricket team, one of the favorites to play the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2026 semi-finals, was caught by surprise against Nepal. On paper, the match seemed to be an easy task for the Harry Brook-led side. But thoughts started to process in the opposite direction when Nepal started their run chase.
Batting first, the English side registered a competitive total of 184 for 7, supported by Jacob Bethell’s 55, Brook’s 53, and an unbeaten 39 of Will Jacks. For Nepal, Dipendra Singh Airee and Nandan Yadav claimed a brace each.
England left stunned
As the total confirmed by the England cricket team was decent enough, cricket fans assumed that they would outclass Nepal with ease. But the cricketers of Nepal had different thoughts. They walked into the Wankhede Stadium with sheer belief, the belief that drove them near to causing an upset. Nepal might have fallen behind by only a few inches, but it was the battle that will be in cricket fans’ minds for a long time.
Lokesh Bam remained unbeaten for 39 off 20 with four 4s and a couple of 6s. He was the main catalyst who started to give the England cricketers nightmares. Against England’s 184, Nepal scored 180 for 6. The lower-ranked team needed 6 runs in the last ball to win the match. Sam Curran somehow managed to handle the pressure and helped England to avoid any upset by a narrow margin.
