India and Pakistan are set to lock horns for another electrifying match in the T20 World Cup. The India vs. Pakistan ICC T20 World Cup 2026 match is set to be held on February 15, in Colombo, Sri Lanka. Ahead of the match, former Pakistan cricketer Basit Ali made a surprising wish. He wished for rain during the match.
There was a lot of drama ahead of the match. Pakistan threatened to boycott the match as well before taking a U-turn. Ali might not be pleased with the Mohsin Naqvi-led Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) decision to walk on the reverse way.
Cloud of uncertainty was their over India vs Pakistan T20 World Cup 2026 match
The tussle between the PCB and the International Cricket Council (ICC) prolonged for weeks. Even after the beginning of the tournament, there was uncertainty over the highly anticipated match. Pakistan called for boycotting the India match in solidarity with Bangladesh. It was more than a political stance than for cricketing reasons, as Pakistan had no business involving the ICC and the Bangladesh standoff.
ICC snubbed the Bangladesh cricket team from the flagship tournament as they refused to travel to India, citing ‘security and safety concerns.’ ICC gave the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) an ultimatum to rethink about their stance. But the BCB officials remained firm on their stance. As a result, ICC threw them out of the tournament.
After the ejection of the Bangladesh cricket team, Mohsin Naqvi, PCB chief and Pakistan’s interior minister, threatened to boycott their fixture with India, followed by the government’s official announcement.
Former Pakistan cricket wish to see rain during the match time
Through a social media post, the Government of Pakistan confirmed that Pakistan will play in the T20 World Cup 2026 but will not take the field against India on February 15 in Colombo. To settle the matter, ICC held a meeting with PCB in the presence of Bangladesh and Malaysia cricket board representatives. In conclusion of the conversation, PCB informed that they are open to taking the field against India.
PCB’s decision to play the match might not make Basit Ali happy, as he wants to see pouring rain during the match time. While speaking with A-Sports, he said, “Meri toh dua hai Allah Ta’ala baarish kar de (My prayer is that Allah Ta’ala makes it rain).”
