David Warner Rewrites Multiple Records Against Hobart Hurricanes

David Warner rewrote multiple milestones in a single innings against the Hobart Hurricanes. He smashed nine sixes, the second-most ever by a Sydney Thunder batter in a BBL innings. The knock also became the highest individual score for the Sydney Thunder in the competition.

At 39 years and 68 days, Warner became the oldest player to score a century in BBL history. Notably, it was his second-highest score in T20 cricket, only behind his 135 for New South Wales in 2011.

Powered by Warner’s innings, Sydney Thunder posted 205 for 4, their second-highest total ever against Hobart Hurricanes. The knock stood out for the sheer number of records it shattered in a single night.

We Took A Bit Of Inspiration From the Blueprint… – David Warner

Warner expressed satisfaction after his team crossed the 200-run mark, saying the batters followed a smarter plan rather than forcing shots. Warner said that reaching such a big total felt rewarding, but added that he did not want to look too far ahead about the result.

“(On getting to a total in excess of 200) It feels great. I said at the start of the game that we took a bit of inspiration from the blueprint the Sixers used against us. Normally when we bat, we’ve lost wickets trying to be too aggressive,” Warner stated.

“But today, if you kept your shape and stayed positive, you could score freely. To get to 200 is a fantastic feeling. (On whether they have done enough to secure their second win in this season today) I’m still a little hesitant to think too far ahead. It’s about backing yourself, going out there, and playing your natural game.”
