Australian cricket has received a huge relief after Damien Martyn showed remarkable signs of recovery following a terrifying health scare. The former Australian batter has woken up from an induced coma, with his family describing his improvement as “miraculous.”

Martyn was admitted to Gold Coast University Hospital after being diagnosed with meningitis. Doctors placed the 54-year-old World Cup winner in an induced coma as part of his treatment, which left the Australian cricket fraternity and his family and loved ones concerned.

He was diagnosed with meningitis, a serious inflammation of the protective membranes covering the brain and spinal cord. Due to the risk of dangerous swelling, doctors have placed the former batter in an induced coma, which is a medically-induced state of unconsciousness to allow his brain to rest and heal during the acute phase of the illness.

However, in a stunning and positive health update, Martyn’s partner, Amanda, and his family confirmed that he has now regained consciousness and is responding well.

Adam Gilchrist Confirms Miracle Turnaround in Damien Martyn’s Recovery
Meanwhile, Martyn’s close friend and legendary Australian wicketkeeper-batter Adam Gilchrist also shared the positive news. He confirmed that Martyn is now able to speak and is responding well to treatment, showing strong signs of improvement after coming out of the coma.
Adam Gilchrist was quoted as saying by Code Sports: “He has responded extraordinarily well since coming out (of the coma) to the point where his family feels it’s like some sort of miracle. It has been so positive that they’re hopeful he will be able to move out of the ICU into another part of the hospital, which is representative of what a great recovery it’s been and how quickly it has flipped around.”

The legendary cricketer said that he has remained in regular contact with Martyn’s wife, Amanda, and said that the former batter’s family feels deeply grateful for the love they received. Gilchrist shared that Martyn will continue to stay in the hospital, but his recovery is miraculous.
