BCB exposed beyond repair as Bangladesh cricketers hold explosive press conference; ICC intervention looms

Bangladesh Players vs BCB

The BCB has been issued another ultimatum by the Bangladesh Cricketers, as they have asked for a written assurance from the BCB that the Director, Najmul Islam, will resign within the next 48 hours, and only then will they play the second game today; otherwise, the BPL will be halted again.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board adopted the idea of not travelling to India for the ICC T20 World Cup after Mustafizur Rahman was snubbed from the upcoming IPL edition of 2026 following anti-Bangladesh movements in the country. However, during their decision, BCB were advised by former player Tamim Iqbal to reconsider their decision.

However, BCB Director Najmul Islam claimed that Tamim Iqbal is an ‘Indian agent’ and also that players would take the financial hit if Bangladesh do not play in the upcoming T20 World Cup 2026 in India.

Bangladesh Cricketers appeal for written confirmation on the BCB Director’s resignation

Bangladesh cricketers and the Cricketers Welfare Association of Bangladesh have come to the rescue of the Bangladesh cricketers, and also the former Bangladeshi great Tamim Iqbal.

The CWAB has publicly demanded Najmul’s resignation and warned of a boycott if the standoff continues, raising the stakes ahead of key fixtures. The BCB has finally agreed to their terms and has said that the official resignation would need around 48 hours.

They have thus urged them to give them in writing that he will resign within 48 hours, and then will play today’s game; otherwise, the BCB will have to compensate the players if they violate the rules.

Mehidy Hasan Miraz slams BCB Director for vile statements on Tamim Iqbal

Bangladesh cricketer Mehidy Hasan Miraz has strongly protested against the comments from the BCB Director and mentioned that it is not only deeply disappointing but has also fueled the public narrative on how Bangladesh cricketers are paid.

“We always say the board is our guardian. When comments like these come from them, it is deeply disappointing for us,” Miraz said.

When Miraz spoke about the several accusations that surfaced whenever cricketers’ performances dipped, and they were held accountable for the taxpayers’ money, he clearly stated that it was not how it worked out.

“The money the board has today is the result of every match played wearing the Bangladesh jersey. It’s earned through the hard work of players. Everyone has a rightful share in it,” Miraz said.

“We play ICC tournaments, and that’s why we are earning money,” remarked Miraz

The statement is not only about a single statement but also about the basic economics and respect. He highlighted that the BCB’s financial independence is entirely due to the players performing in a way that keeps the sport commercially viable.

“We play ICC tournaments, and that’s why we are earning money. If cricket doesn’t happen, sponsors won’t come. ICC revenue won’t come either. The board stands where it does today because players go out and play,” he mentioned.

“This isn’t just a personal issue. It’s embarrassing for the entire sports arena. I don’t know whether those comments were made knowingly or unknowingly, but from someone in that position, such remarks are simply unacceptable,” Miraz added, reflecting on the fact that the words from officials carry special emphasis and can spread quickly and more widely.
