Arshdeep Singh Registers Most Expensive Five-Wicket Haul in Men’s T20I History
Arshdeep Singh created an unusual record in the fifth T20I against New Zealand. His spell of 5-51 became the most expensive five-wicket haul in the history of men’s T20Is, breaking the previous record held by Joseph.
New Zealand got off to a flying start during the run chase. Arshdeep conceded 17 runs in his first over but dismissed Tim Seifert for 5. His second over went for 23 runs as Finn Allen counterattacked with four fours and a six. Allen went on to smash 80 off 38 balls before being dismissed.
The left-arm pacer bounced back strongly later in the innings. In the 12th over, he removed Rachin Ravindra for 30 and Mitchell Santner for a duck. Arshdeep completed his five-wicket haul in the 16th over by dismissing Kyle Jamieson for 9 and Daryl Mitchell for 26 off 12 balls.
Arshdeep Singh Played a Vital Role in Team India’s T20 World Cup 2024 Triumph
India will once again rely heavily on Arshdeep Singh as they try to defend their T20 World Cup crown in 2026. Since making his T20I debut in 2022, the left-arm pacer has become a trusted option in pressure situations.
Arshdeep played a key role in India’s title win in 2024. He finished the tournament as the second-highest wicket-taker, claiming 17 wickets in eight innings at an average of 12.64. He conceded just four runs in the crucial 19th over of the final against South Africa in Barbados.
India will open their group campaign against the USA in Mumbai on February 7. They will then play Namibia in Delhi on February 12 before facing arch-rivals Pakistan in Colombo on February 15. Their final group match will be against the Netherlands in Ahmedabad on February 18.
