South Africa all-rounder Marco Jansen missed his maiden Test century on Day 2 (Sunday, November 23) of the second and final Test against India at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati. Following his dismissal in the innings, the right-handed batter vented his frustration, nearly smashing the stumps.
Jansen added 97 runs off 106 balls with Senuran Muthusamy for the eighth wicket. Muthusamy perished for 106 to Mohammed Siraj’s bowling. Jansen continued to add runs with Simon Harmer and Keshav Maharaj to help the team reach 489 in 151.1 overs. He was the last batter to be dismissed in South Africa’s innings.

Marco Jansen’s outstanding innings ended in disappointment as he fell short of his maiden first-class hundred. After dominating India’s bowlers with a flurry of boundaries and seven sixes, he adopted a more cautious approach while nearing the milestone.
That change in tempo proved costly. Kuldeep Yadav delivered a googly outside off, and Jansen’s tentative push produced an inside edge that rolled back onto the stumps, leaving him stranded on 93. The dismissal wrapped up South Africa’s innings at 489.
Jansen was visibly furious, walking off without acknowledging the applause from teammates and the Guwahati crowd. His aggressive knock had already placed South Africa in a commanding position, leaving India with a massive task to stay alive in the series.

South Africa Bowled Out for 489 Runs in First Innings
India began Day 2 with a task to take the remaining South African wickets quickly. However, Senuran Muthusamy and Kyle Verreynne batted with remarkable control through the entire morning, producing the first wicketless session of the series.
Muthusamy scored his maiden Test hundred and pushed the total beyond 400. Following Verreynne’s dismissal, Jansen took over with an explosive counter-attack. He scored 93 runs off 91 balls, hitting 6 boundaries and 7 sixes. South Africa eventually bundled out for 489 runs.
Earlier on Day 1, the top order got starts but failed to convert them. India’s bowlers, especially Kuldeep, bounced back before stumps on the opening day, restricting the score to 247/6.
Jansen Breaks Multiple Records During His Knock
Jansen became South Africa’s second-highest scorer by a No. 9 or lower against India. He smashed seven sixes, the most ever by a visiting batter in a Test innings in India. The batter also equalled the South African record for the most sixes in a Test innings.
