Australia fast bowler Andrew Tye, aged 39, has finally called quits on his Big Bash League career, as he announces his retirement ahead of the Melbourne Renegades vs Perth Scorchers game. He has now signed a massive two-year deal with Yorkshire for the Vitality Blast.
Andrew Tye made his debut back in 2013 when he started featuring in the Big Bash League. Tye played throughout his BBL career for the Perth Scorchers; however, he started his career for the Sydney Thunder and is now all set to conclude it in the Melbourne Renegades jersey.
The Australian paceman was born in December 1986 and has starred for Western Australia in junior-level domestic cricket. He has also represented Australia in senior-level Men’s international cricket in both the ODI and T20I formats.
Andrew Tye retires as the second-highest BBL wicket-taker
Australian speedster Andrew Tye started off his career at the age of 26, and after three years of promising cricket, he made his debut for Australia at the age of 29 and went on to feature in 7 One-day and 32 T20I games.
In 2021-22, he became the first Perth Scorchers pacer to pick up 100 wickets in the Big Bash League history. With 162 wickets in the BBL, Tye was the second-highest wicket-taker in the BBL and has announced he is playing his last game in the Big Bash against his former franchise, the Perth Scorchers.
Throughout his career, Tye has starred for the Perth Scorchers, picking up multiple wickets throughout every edition and managing to get 159 wickets for the Scorchers. Also, his finest season came in 2022/23 when he picked up 26 wickets, breaking his own record of 25 wickets in 2021/22 with the Scorchers.

Tye has signed a two-year deal with Yorkshire in the Vitality Blast
Andrew Tye has signed a two-year deal with the England County team Yorkshire to feature in the upcoming games for the Vitality Blast T20.
“Everyone saw a post regarding my signing with the Yorkshire Team for the Vitality T20 Blast, but what that post did not mention was that I have signed as a local player, which means this will be my last season in the BBL,” stated Andrew Tye in his retirement statement.
Known widely for his lethal knuckleball, Tye has established himself as one of the World’s most devastating bowlers, particularly in the death overs. The right-armer has claimed 86 scalps in the Vitality T20 Blast over the 6 previous sessions.
Andrew Tye’s T20 Career Stats
In his short and crisp career, Andrew Tye has picked 47 wickets in T20 International matches and has also picked 12 in his ODI career for Australia. Other than his international career, he has picked 27 First-Class wickets and 148 List A wickets.
Tye has been playing T20 cricket around the globe, as he has played in the Big Bash League, Major League Cricket, Vitality Blast, PSL, and also the IPL. In five IPL seasons, Tye has featured for four franchises, including the Gujarat Lions, Punjab Kings, Rajasthan Royals, and Lucknow Super Giants.
With a total of 249 matches throughout his career in the shortest format of the game, he has picked 343 wickets with the best bowling figures of 5/17. He has picked a five-wicket haul thrice in his career and has picked three BBL hat-tricks and one in his debut IPL season in 2017.
