Virat Kohli overtakes Shubman Gill in ICC ODI Rankings, aims to snatch Rohit Sharma’s No.1 spot

Indian legend Virat Kohli’s 83rd international hundred helped him leap past Shubman Gill in the ICC Men’s ODI Rankings. He is just 32 points behind teammate Rohit Sharma to take the top position.

India clashed against South Africa in the first ODI in Ranchi. Virat Kohli’s legendary comeback century broke extensive records as he scored the 7000th hundred in international cricket. His stupendous 135 handed India the early lead in the series.

India won the match by 17 runs, and Virat Kohli, the centurion, was picked as the Player of the match in the game. This marked his 44th POTM award in his illustrious career spanning for nearly two decades.

Virat Kohli surpasses Shubman Gill, inches closer to Rohit Sharma’s record

Virat Kohli’s 52nd ODI century helped them go past the Indian skipper, Shubman Gill, in the ODI rankings. He rose several positions to reach the fourth position.

Currently, Virat Kohli, who held the top position for a prolonged period in the previous decade, has never held the spot after Babar Azam replaced him in 2021.

As of now, Rohit Sharma extended his lead at the top, with Daryl Mitchell and Ibrahim Zadran being the other two in the list. Kohli is now only 32 points behind Rohit to secure the top spot in the ICC ODI Rankings. Currently, he takes the fourth position with 751 points.

Kuldeep Yadav also advances one spot in the ICC Bowling Rankings

Adding to the joy and glory of the Indian team, Kuldeep Yadav, the bowler, moved one place to move to the sixth position on the latest ODI rankings for bowlers. While there was yet another change in the T20I rankings.

Saim Ayub, who gained the top spot for the first time earlier this year, was then snubbed from the position following Sikander Raza’s rise to the occasion. After the tri-series, Saim Ayub, who contributed with 36 runs and a crucial wicket in the final, the 23-year-old once again moved to the top spot.

Abrar Ahmed and Mohammad Nawaz from the Pakistan team also took advantage of their tri-series triumph and rose four places up to the fourth position, while Nawaz went two spots up to 11.

Marco Jansen gained career-high ratings in Test cricket

After South Africa’s whitewash over India in the Test series, Marco Jansen, the lanky South African pacer, was among the biggest of the beneficiaries. Marco Jansen improved his ratings in the bowling and all-rounder charts.

Jansen found a new career high in ratings as he gained five spots to the fifth position on the list of Test bowlers, after he picked 17 wickets in the series across the two matches and was named the Player of the series.

Jansen also gained four spots in the Test all-rounder rankings to the second spot, as only Indian Ravindra Jadeja continues to maintain his top spot in the Test all-rounders spot.
