Shreyas Iyer Yashasvi Jaiswal Indias Asia Cup

In a major development, the star batters Shreyas Iyer and Yashasvi Jaiswal will not be featuring in the Asia Cup 2025 squad of the India National Cricket Team.

Also, a report in the Times of India (TOI) has revealed the squad announcement date of the India National Cricket Team for the upcoming continental tournament.

India to open campaign against the UAE

Asia Cup 2025 is set to be played in T20I format, and it will be held from September 9 to September 28 in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

11 matches of the Asia Cup 2025, including the final, will be played at the Dubai International Stadium, and 8 games will be hosted by Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi.

Suryakumar Yadav-led India are placed in Group A alongside Pakistan, Oman, and UAE, while Group B consists of Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, and Hong Kong.

Team India will open their campaign against the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on September 10 before the blockbuster clash against arch-rivals Pakistan on September 14. Their last group stage game will be against Oman on September 19.

Suryakumar Yadav confirmed to lead; India squad announcement on August 19

Reportedly, the India squad for the Asia Cup 2025 will be picked on August 19 in Mumbai, and T20I skipper Suryakumar Yadav will be present in the meeting.

Suryakumar Yadav is currently at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru while recuperating after a sports hernia surgery, and he will soon fly to Mumbai.

This development also confirms that Suryakumar Yadav will continue as the skipper of the T20I team, and Shubman Gill will have to wait for some time before he gets his hands on the India T20I captaincy.

“Yes, the team for the Asia Cup will be picked on Aug 19 in Mumbai. The selection committee meeting will be followed by a press conference by chief selector, former India pacer Ajit Agarkar,” a source in the BCCI said on Thursday, as quoted by TOI.

Shubman Gill doubtful, Shreyas Iyer and Yashasvi Jaiswal to be snubbed

Earlier, some reports claimed that the selectors would be adding Shubman Gill to India’s Asia Cup 2025 squad as vice-captain, but the latest report suggests that dark clouds are hovering over his selection.

A source revealed that the team management is looking to continue with the opening pair of Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma, hence making it difficult for Shubman Gill to be selected.

Also, the source revealed that the star batsman Shreyas Iyer, who set the stage on fire in IPL 2025, and the opening batsman Yashasvi Jaiswal, who has been told to focus on red-ball cricket, won’t be featuring in the squad.

“In fact, with India looking to persist with the opening pair of Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma, Gill is currently struggling to even make it to the side. Even Yashasvi Jaiswal, who had a great series in England, and middle-order bat Shreyas Iyer are likely not to be picked for the T20 side. Jaiswal has been told by the selectors to focus on red-ball cricket,” a source revealed.
