Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are now reportedly considering a trade for Delhi Capitals’ (DC) top-order batter KL Rahul, following earlier speculation linking them to Rajasthan Royals (RR) skipper Sanju Samson.

Chennai Super Kings May Shift Trade Focus from Sanju Samson to KL Rahul
Chennai Super Kings are reportedly reconsidering their trade targets ahead of IPL 2026. According to DNA India, the franchise may shift its focus from Sanju Samson to KL Rahul.
While Samson was earlier seen as a potential successor to MS Dhoni, CSK now feel Rahul is a more suitable long-term option. The change in strategy has created a buzz in the trade market, with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) also reportedly showing interest in Rahul.
Rahul’s versatility makes him a valuable asset. He brings stability as a batter, strong leadership qualities, and the added benefit of wicketkeeping, reminiscent of Dhoni. These traits make him a strong contender to lead CSK in the post-Dhoni era.
KKR and RR Emerge as Contenders for KL Rahul Amid Trade Buzz
Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) are reportedly keen on acquiring Delhi Capitals batter KL Rahul, especially after struggling with overseas wicketkeeping options during the 2025 season. Rahul’s inclusion would allow them to free up an overseas slot, offering more flexibility in team composition.
KKR assistant coach Abhishek Nayar, who shares a close rapport with Rahul, could play a crucial role in facilitating the trade. There are even rumors that KKR might offer Rahul the captaincy, following a disappointing campaign under Ajinkya Rahane.
Meanwhile, Rajasthan Royals (RR) could also enter the race for Rahul if they decide to trade Sanju Samson to Chennai Super Kings. Rahul could fill the void in leadership and the wicketkeeping department left by Samson. RR might even consider trading Shimron Hetmyer to DC in exchange for Rahul.
KL Rahul and Sanju Samson’s Performances In IPL 2025
KL Rahul scored 539 runs in 13 matches for DC despite batting at different positions. He ended the league stage among the top 10 run-getters. However, DC, led by Axar Patel, lost momentum in the second half after a strong start. They narrowly missed the playoffs, finishing fifth with seven wins.
On the other hand, Sanju Samson had a season marred by injuries. He began the campaign as an Impact Player but later suffered an abdominal injury against Delhi Capitals, which sidelined him for five matches.
Rajasthan Royals endured a disappointing season, finishing ninth on the table with just four wins from 14 matches. Samson scored 285 runs in nine games at an average of 35.62 and a strike rate of 140.39, managing only one fifty throughout the tournament.
