India National Cricket Team young opening batsman Yashasvi Jaiswal and England National Cricket Team skipper Ben Stokes were engaged in a war of words during the 2nd Test.
The second Test of the five-match series between the India National Cricket Team and the England National Cricket Team got underway on Wednesday, July 2, at Edgbaston in Birmingham.
Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ben Stokes clash in the 17th over
Jaiswal is heading into the second Test match on the back of a mixed outing in the series opener at Headingley in Leeds, where he shone with the bat but was awful on the field.
In the first innings, he slammed an amazing century before falling for four in the next innings. However, more than his batting, Yashasvi Jaiswal was discussed for his horror show on the field.
Nothing went in Yashasvi Jaiswal’s favor on the field as the ball kept chasing him, and he dropped back-to-back catches. He dropped as many as four catches, equalling the record for most dropped catches by an Indian in a Test match.
Meanwhile, Yashasvi Jaiswal started off very well in the Edgbaston Test and batted beautifully. He faced no troubles while facing the English bowlers and easily dispatched them all over the park.
As Jaiswal was going great guns, things got pretty heated in the 17th over. During the over, Jaiswal, who smashed Ben Stokes for a four with a lovely on-drive, was engaged in a heated verbal spat with the England skipper.
Things didn’t escalate any further between the duo and got sorted out, with the players going back to their business.

Both Nair and Jaiswal have been very good in terms of control – Kumar Sangakkara
Speaking on Sky Sports, Sri Lanka great Kumar Sangakkara was highly impressed with the way Jaiswal and Karun Nair batted after India lost KL Rahul early. He said:
βBoth Nair and Jaiswal have been very good in terms of control. If it is pitched up you can go straight but anything shorter you can go cover and point and Jaiswal has realised that.β
Kumar Sangakkara was also surprised to see England making plans very late in the match. He said:
βThis is a little different from the usual Stokes where every plan is set and well thought out. England have been making things up a little as they go this morning, with field changes over to over and sometimes ball to ball.β
At the Lunch on Day 1, India were at 98/2, with Yashasvi Jaiswal (62*) and Shubman Gill (1*) unbeaten in the middle.
Notably, the pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah is not featuring in India’s playing XI in the second Test due to workload management, and this move, along with Kuldeep Yadav’s snub, has shocked former Australia skipper Aaron Finch.
“If Bumrah was fit to play then surely you need to pick the best bowler in the world? At the very least Kuldeep has the be in the XI if youβre worried about taking 20 wickets. Yes, he might be more expensive but heβs the next best attacking option!,” he wrote on X.
