Pakistan faced England in the Super 8 clash on Tuesday, at the Pallakele International Cricket Stadium, Pallakele. Soon the Men in Green lost their captain Salman Ali Agha with Liam Dawson picking up the wicket.

Sahibzada Farhan was the lone striker for Pakistan

Babar Azam and Sahibzada Farhan, then stitched a small partnership of 46 runs. Before the former was dismissed on another low score of 25 off 24 balls, Babar was struggling against spin, especially against Adil Rashid. Farhan once again controlled the other end and continued his hot form, scoring another half-century.

Harry Brook plays a captain’s knock

Coming out to chase, England had the worst possible start, with Phil Salt, who was the highest scorer in the last game, was out on a first ball duck, with Shaheen Shah Afridi, picking a wicket on his comeback game. The pacer in his second over struck against a struggling Jos Buttler as the latter’s string of low scores continued as he was dismissed for 2 runs.

Shaheen was the pick of the bowlers in the powerplay with four wickets in four overs. However, a counter attacking cricket from captain Harry Brook who promoted himself as he came at No.3 and played a captain’s knock, as he scored his 100 off 51 balls, with 10 fours and four sixes with a strike rate 196.08.

Despite the early wickets it was Harry Brook who made it sure that England were home as when he was dismissed with 10 needed off the last three overs. Other England batters gave small contributions to a decent total of 165 runs.

All-rounder Will Jacks played yet another crucial innings, 28 off 23 balls, he finished off as the second highest scorer for the side as he was dismissed with five needed. They became the first side to qualify for the last four as they have recovered well despite starting the camapaign a bit rusty.
