Former Indian batter Wasim Jaffer, often considered one of the big brains of the game, made a hilarious remark on Nepal’s below-par performance against Italy in their World Cup clash. The same Nepalese team that lost to England by just 4 runs while chasing a mammoth 180+ total, were bowled out for just 123 runs against Italy.
The ICC T20 World Cup often has several high-stake games; however, until now the World Cup has been quite bland, with many predictable results. The minnows have been put together with two giants of World cricket in every group and hence, results have been one-sided.
However, the games, like England vs. Nepal, were close encounters, as the English won by a four-run margin and the Afghanistan vs South Africa game was an absolute blinder, with the game being stretched until two super-overs.
Nepal was thrashed by Italian bowlers, as the Asian underdogs collapse miserably at the Wankhede Stadium
After having made a stunning start to their campaign against the English side, Nepal were considered a special team in this World Cup who were expected to hand a strong opposition any serious upset.
The Italian side are debutants in this World Cup and Nepal, who have had prior exposure to the ICC events, were considered the genuine favourites for the game. As Nepal came in to bat first, the wickets kept falling at regular intervals, and despite starts for several of their first five batters, they never got to convert them into a big one.
Italians started with their spin options in Benjamin Manenti, who was exceptional with the ball and then were backed by the other spinners in JJ Smuts and Crishan Kalugamage. They picked 6 wickets between them and Nepal was bowled out in the 20th over for just 123 runs.
Wasim Jaffer trolls Nepal with hilarious post on X
Wasim Jaffer, the former Indian batting great, went on to make a mockery of Nepal’s skillset after their disappointing show against Nepal. Wasim Jaffer commented that this could possibly be marked as the biggest upset of this World Cup.
His predictions did not go wrong, as the Italian side not only dismissed the Nepalese batters for a low score of 123 runs, but also chased the total with some ease and domination. Wasim Jaffer made a hilarious remark through his X post.
His post read: “Pizza > momos Looks like the first big upset of the world cup.”

After the bowlers, Italian batters dominate with utter brilliance
The Italy bowlers had already done a remarkable job, reducing them to just 123, but the work was still left to be done, especially with the experienced Nepalese bowling attack, which also comprised some spin-bowling maestros.
Italian openers Justin Mosca and his brother Anthony Mosca played the finest innings of their lifetime, as they got to their respective maiden half-centuries in the World Cup. An unbeaten 124 run stand between the two batters saw them stage a commanding victory over Nepal by 10 wickets and 44 balls remaining.
