India vs Pakistan is the blockbuster clash in any major International Cricket Council (ICC) event. The game brings in the most revenue, and since the social media announcement from the Pakistan government of their participation in the 2026 T20 World Cup and not to take the field against India has created a stir in world cricket.

As per recent reports, ICC is scheduled to have a meeting today in order to discuss the ongoing controversy for the India vs Pakistan match. Amidst this, Former High Commissioner to India, Abdul Basit, has stated that India has requested U.S. Ambassador Sergio Gor to step in and convince Pakistan to reconsider their decision not to play against India on February 15th.

USA to intervene in India vs Pakistan war

Former High Commissioner to India, Abdul Basit, posted on X (formerly twitter), “According to some reliable sources India has asked Ambassador Sergio Gor for US intervention to persuade Pakistan to revoke its decision to not play against India on Feb. 15.”

ICC is working with Imran Khwaja, the Deputy Chairman, who has been working as the mediator between the two nations’ council members. ICC generates the most revenue from this match from gate sales, the sale of rights, and more. They will have to incur a loss if they fail to organise the match on the scheduled date.

Sri Lanka sends an official letter to Pakistan

It will be really difficult for the co-host nation, Sri Lanka, which will also have to go through the loss, as the match is scheduled at the R Premedasa Stadium, Colombo. Sri Lanka Cricket has already sent an official email to reconsider Pakistan’s decision. PCB has a good relationship with the SLC, and they are going to have a meeting with the national government.

Pakistan’s decision came right after Bangladesh was removed from the T20 World Cup, being replaced by Scotland, after the Bangla Tigers continued to remain on their stance to change their venues from India to Sri Lanka, citing security reasons. This decision was taken after Mustafizur Rahman was barred by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) from playing the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL).

Pakistan shows solidarity

Pakistan was the only nation that supported Bangladesh; however, both nations have failed to gather support from other nations. PCB also knocked on the other board members to get their support for the India vs Pakistan fiasco, but left empty-handed. As per reports, Pakistan has demanded certain things from the ICC to play against India.

The PCB has asked ICC to resume the India vs Pakistan bilateral series, but this decision will not stand as BCCI will not take the final call on the matter. PCB has also asked to increase the annual revenue that they receive from ICC. Pakistan receives around USD 34.5 million, which is the fourth highest.

They also want India to resume the handshake with Pakistan players to keep the spirit of the game. However, the final decision on the demands will be taken after the emergency meeting, which is scheduled today.
