Shimron Hetmyer took a stunner to dismiss Scotland opener George Munsey in the West Indies vs Scotland T20 World Cup 2026 Match 2 at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata. The catch Hetmyer claimed is currently in the race for the catch of the tournament.
Scotland started their chase in a watchful manner. The West Indies bowling line-up was not allowing the batters to free their arms. With the rising asking run rate, George Munsey had no option but to take the aerial route.
Shimron Hetmyer took a superman-like catch
He smashed Shamar Joseph with a flat bat, which went towards the deep backward square leg region, where Hetmyer grabbed the ball in the air. The fielder threw his body into the air, stretching his arm, and palmed it without making a mistake. A one-handed stunner to dismiss the batter.

Hetmyer was the brightest star for West Indies
For the second match of the T20 World Cup 2026, West Indies squared off with the Scotland cricket team. Ahead of the tournament, the Caribbeans were not in the best of their forms, so they had to start off their T20 World Cup campaign in a strong way.
Though their ignition was not perfect enough to talk about. Batting first, they lost their opening batter in a short interval. Hope departed after scoring only 19 runs. The captain lost his scalp when West Indies was on 54, and his opening partner, Brandon King (35), went back to the pavilion when the team was on 58.
The West Indies started to flaunt their real batting strengths as soon as Shimron Hetmyer stepped into the middle. The middle-order attacker took very little time to settle down on the track and smashed a half-century. Hetmyer’s impactful 64 off 36 helped West Indies to register 182/5 in the first innings of the match.
In his 36-ball knock, the swashbuckling batter smashed six 6s and a couple of 4s to dismantle the Scotland bowling attack. The monstrous shots took his strike rate to 177.78. The solo efforts from Hetmyer can be the decisive factors for the match result.
West Indies in the driving seat
In modern-day cricket, 182 is a chaseable total. But does the Scotland cricket team have enough firepower to do that? That was the sole question after the conclusion of the first innings. They started the run chase in a watchful manner, nothing heroic, but in a sensible manner.
When the Scottish top-order batters were trying to adjust themselves in the middle, it was again Hetmyer who took a flying catch. This type of catch can prove enough to break the opposition team’s mentality at any point of a match. Hetmyer’s one-handed catch multiplied chances for the West Indies to win their first match of the 2026 T20 World Cup.
