Yashasvi Jaiswal and Mumbai have received a big relief as the young Indian opener’s health is finally moving in the right direction after weeks of concern. Yashasvi Jaiswal has been battling a serious stomach problem, acute gastroenteritis, which forced him out of action.
Health scare forces Yashasvi Jaiswal out of Ranji Trophy action
This issue also ruled him out of Mumbai’s recent Ranji Trophy 2025-26 match against Delhi. It all started with “a severe bout of food poisoning” in December 2025 after a Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy match in Pune, when Jaiswal suffered intense stomach pain and cramps.
His condition worsened to the point that he had to be admitted to a hospital in Pune, where doctors conducted several medical tests, including an endoscopy and CT scans. Since then, the left-handed batter has been on rest and medication, with doctors closely monitoring his recovery.

Because the issue continued longer than expected, Mumbai selectors did not consider Jaiswal for the elite Group D clash of the Ranji Trophy 2025-26 against Delhi, starting on January 29, as the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) waited for a clear fitness update.
Positive update brings hope of Quarterfinal return
Now, a fresh update has finally brought positive news. Jaiswal recently met doctors and was advised further evaluation, but his condition has been improving. He will remain on medication for the next two weeks and has been cleared to slowly restart physical training and skill work from January 28.
An Aaj Tak journalist shared on X: “Yashasvi Jaiswal has been advised to undergo further evaluation, he met with doctor a few days back and the condition is improving. He will continue on medication for the next 2 weeks. He has been advised to start physical activity/training and skill work from tomorrow. He is expected to be fit for the Ranji Trophy quarterfinals by 6 February.”

MCA loses patience with Yashasvi Jaiswal
However, it was earlier reported that Yashasvi Jaiswal was left out of the Mumbai squad for the final Ranji Trophy league match against Delhi because of his “picking and choosing and non-responsive” behaviour. It is being said that Jaiswal has been selective about the matches he wants to play and has often failed to respond when selectors tried to confirm his availability before team meetings.

This lack of communication played a key role in his omission. The issue is more serious because Jaiswal is not currently part of India’s T20I squad playing New Zealand, nor is he in contention for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2026. With the BCCI clearly instructing players to play domestic cricket when free from national duty, Mumbai officials were frustrated with his silence.
An MCA official was quoted as saying by PTI, “It is a fact that he was non-responsive before selection for the last match (against Hyderabad) as well, and it clearly feels like he is picking and choosing matches. We had reached out to him before selecting the team for the previous game and even for the upcoming one, but we did not get any response. So, he was not considered for selection for the home match against Delhi.”
Yashasvi Jaiswal’s domestic run this season
Jaiswal has featured only once in the Ranji Trophy this season, where he impressed with scores of 67 and 156 in a drawn game against Rajasthan in Jaipur. However, he did turn up regularly in white-ball tournaments, playing three matches each in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and the Vijay Hazare Trophy.
