New Zealand player Jayden Lennox suffered an injury while trying to stop a powerful shot from Virat Kohli during the second ODI match between India and New Zealand. The match is underway at the Niranjan Shah Stadium in Rajkot on Wednesday, January 14, with India asked to bat after losing the toss.
New Zealand captain Michael Bracewell won the toss and chose to field first. Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma scored only 10 runs in the first five overs. The opening pair added a 70-run partnership from 74 balls before Rohit was dismissed for 24 off 38 balls. Kohli came to the crease after Rohit’s dismissal.

Jayden Lennox suffered an injury while fielding a shot from Virat Kohli during the second ODI. The incident happened on the fifth ball of the 18th over.
Kohli played a firm drive to the left, and Lennox dived to stop the ball. While sliding on the side pitch, he injured his left palm and was seen bleeding, which forced him to leave the field for medical attention. Lennox impressed on his international debut, conceding just 18 runs in five overs.

Jayden Lennox is making his ODI debut during the match against India. Captain Michael Bracewell brought him into the attack in the 10th over, and Lennox made an immediate impact by giving away just two runs, with one wide, in his first over.
He played 54 List A matches, took 69 wickets, and scored 224 runs from 28 innings. After his name appeared in New Zealand’s playing XI, attention quickly shifted off the field as well.
He studied science and technology, environmental science, and geography at Massey University. Away from cricket, he worked as a greenkeeper at Palmerston Golf Course in Australia from 2018 to 2019.
He later took up roles outside sport, including jobs as a field technician at Aqualinc Research Limited, an assembly technician at Hustler Equipment from 2020 to 2023, and a part-time laboratory technician at ARL between April and September 2024.
Jayden Lennox’s Record as Professional Cricketer
Jayden Lennox has played 21 first-class, 54 List A, and 45 T20 matches, taking 48, 69, and 60 wickets respectively. With the bat, he has scored 390 runs in first-class cricket, 224 in List A, and 68 in T20s.
Lennox made his professional debut in November 2019 and has featured in over 50 List A matches, with bowling figures of 4/52. He has also taken on leadership roles, captaining Central Stags in the Ford Trophy and leading the side in the Super Smash T20 competition.
The 31-year-old earned his place in the senior setup after producing strong performances for New Zealand A during tours of Bangladesh and South Africa in 2025, which helped open the door to international selection.
