Harry Brook has been given a final warning over his behaviour after being involved in a late-night incident with a bouncer before the Ashes series. According to The Telegraph, the incident led to an internal investigation by team management, and Brook came close to losing his role as England’s white-ball captain.
England’s behaviour during the Ashes series against Australia came under criticism. During a mid-series break in Noosa, players, including Brook, were seen drinking. Ben Duckett was also seen appearing drunk and confused late at night, and the incidents raised questions about discipline and professionalism.
Harry Brook on Final Warning Before Ashes Tour
According to The Telegraph, Harry Brook was already on a final warning for his behaviour before the Ashes tour began. The report said the incident happened in Wellington on October 31, when Brook was denied entry to a nightclub after security believed he was drunk.
Brook then got into an argument with a bouncer and was struck, though he did not suffer any injury. He later informed team management himself, and no outside complaint was made. However, the timing raised concern as the incident occurred the night before an ODI match.
That game was the third ODI at Sky Stadium. England collapsed to 31 for four while batting first, with Brook scoring six off 11 balls. England lost the match by two wickets and were swept 3-0 in the series.
Harry Brook Fined £30,000 by ECB Following Nightclub Controversy
The report added that Harry Brook was handed a fine of around £30,000 for the incident, which is the highest penalty allowed by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB). The amount equals four per cent of his central contract retainer.
“We are aware of this incident and it has been dealt with through a formal and confidential ECB disciplinary process. The player involved has apologised and acknowledged their conduct fell below expectations on this occasion,” an ECB spokesperson said.
During England’s stay in Wellington in late October, Brook was among a group of players seen drinking at a rooftop bar. However, it was reported that the later incident involving Brook happened separately and after that gathering.
Brook struggled on the Ashes tour after being placed on a final warning. Despite being ranked as the world’s No. 2 Test batter, he failed to make a big impact and managed only two half-centuries across ten innings.
I Fully Accept My Behaviour Was Wrong – Harry Brook Issues Apology
Harry Brook apologized for his behaviour in a statement released to Telegraph Sport. The right-handed batter admitted that his actions were wrong. Brook said playing for England is a huge honour and accepted that he let down his teammates, coaches, and fans.
“Representing England is the greatest honour of all, which I take seriously and I am deeply sorry for letting down my team-mates, coaches and supporters. I have reflected on the lessons it has taught me about responsibility, professionalism and the standards expected of those representing your country.
“I am determined to learn from this mistake and to rebuild trust through my future actions, both on and off the field. I apologise unreservedly and will work hard to ensure this does not happen again.”
