Travis Head unleashed his wildest version as a reporter questions his thirst for a maiden double hundred in Test cricket. The Australian batter was dismissed for his seventh 150+ score at the SCG on Tuesday, missing out on another golden chance to get to his maiden double century, the second time in this series.
Travis Head, the explosive left-handed batter from Australia, has terrorized the English bowling attack with yet another century in the ongoing Ashes contest. After his promotion to the top of the order, Head scored his third century as an opener with a 166-ball 163 run innings during Australia’s first innings at the SCG.
Head currently averages a whopping 60 in Test cricket as an opener and has accumulated 600 runs across the 5-match series at a blistering strike rate of 87.59. This marked his highest-ever runs tally in a single Test series, though he finished as the second-highest scorer in a calendar year in Test cricket in 2025.
“Beggars can’t be choosers, pretty s*** stat, isn’t it?” – Travis Head unleashes savage self
As Travis Head passed the 150-run mark in Test cricket for the 7th time and missed out on a double century again, his highest score remains the 175 that came against the West Indies back in 2022. When asked about the anomaly and his hunger for a double hundred, Head had a quirky response that got the entire room giggling.
He said, “Beggars can’t be choosers, pretty s*** stat, isn’t it?
“I’d much rather (scores of) 160 to 170 than zero to ten, so I can’t complain about that. I probably had a couple of chances this series, but. Yeah, peg up and watch the boys go about it,” Head added.
“I am not too worried (about not getting to the double hundred as a milestone),” he concluded.
“Pretty s*** stat, isn’t it?”

Travis Head is delighted to be the heavy lifter alongside Steve Smith in the Australian side
While speaking to the reporters, Head was questioned about his feelings after his recent success at the top of the order, to which he replied that he is extremely delighted.
“I’m not normally the one that’s doing the heavy lifting as such. Marnus (Labuschagne) and Smudge (Steve Smith) over the last period of time have been the heavy-lifters, the guys that have really driven games,” Head opined.
However, he looked pleased that he got an opportunity to finally pull out his finger and help them out, and is very satisfied by the way he has had a consistent run in the series.
Travis Head hints at continuing for Australia in the top order
Travis Head has never been vocal about his prospects to open the innings for the Aussies in the long run; however, the South Australian batter looked confident that he would remain at the top of the Australian batting order after scoring his third hundred in the Ashes.
Australia, anyway, do not have any Test matches scheduled until August and would then continue their prospects in the WTC cycle. However, Head admitted that he is most likely to continue as the opener during the winter campaign against Bangladesh.
“This rolling order, where we think guys are going to match up and where we’re going to fit guys in, I think is still where my head’s at,” Head explained.
“With the leadership of the group and the selectors, we’ve been pretty open about that and how we match up and how we want to best suit this team.”
He further added that they have got lots of time to decide on this, as they have got a nice, lengthy break from this format of the game. The management and the players would then plan for the upcoming series against Bangladesh, South Africa, and New Zealand.
“The masterminds will go to work and set the team up how they think we’re going to best be able to win Test matches,” Head concluded.
