In a significant development for Indian cricket, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has been directed by Yograj Singh to expand the coaching staff by giving a role to the legendary all-rounder Yuvraj Singh.
Yuvraj Singh for India Coach?
Yuvraj’s father, Yograj Singh, has openly pushed the idea, stressing that Indian cricket is missing out by not using the experience and knowledge of one of its greatest match-winners. The former cricketer has noted that Yuvraj has already earned global respect and continues to be involved in cricket across the world. Despite this, Indian cricket has yet to fully tap into his expertise.

The coach has stressed that the two-time World Cup winner has nothing to gain personally but a lot to offer, especially given his unique understanding of mental strength, discipline, and resilience. The legendary all-rounder is someone who has played at the highest level, handled pressure on the biggest stages, and returned to international cricket after defeating cancer.
Yograj Singh told well-known Ravish Bisht, “When you have a man like Yuvraj Singh, why don’t you take him? It is for your benefit; he has nothing to lose. The cricketing fraternity of the whole world is taking him in Abu Dhabi. He is going here and there doing things. He was born in this country; he has played for the country after beating cancer for you. You are not taking his services, so it is your loss.”
Yograj Singh Pushes BCCI to Give Yuvraj Singh Key Role
He feels Yuvraj could play a key mentoring role for India’s next generation of stars. Yograj cited how young batters like Shubman Gill and Abhishek Sharma have benefited greatly from Yuvraj’s guidance. Given his successful mentorship, he openly demanded that BCCI give Yuvraj a special role.
Yograj added, “I can only say take Yuvraj’s services. He keeps his hands on Shubman Gill and Abhishek Sharma; they become India’s future. I think you should make him and give him respect by bringing him into the Indian cricket team, and here you do the work for BCCI and make us players. So, I think this is how you give respect to the people who served the country.”

Yuvraj Was My First Hero: Jerrssis Wadia
Recently, Australian youngster Jerrssis Wadia revealed that he grew up idolizing Yuvraj Singh before later becoming a fan of Virat Kohli and Travis Head. The young batter is now making headlines in the BBL 2025–26 with the Adelaide Strikers. He impressed everyone with a brutal assault on Brisbane Heat’s Jack Wildermuth, smashing 24 runs in a single over.
Wadia said on The Surge Podcast by the BBL: “Growing up, it was Yuvraj Singh. He also went through a very tough phase in his life with cancer and made a remarkable comeback. He was my main hero. After him, obviously, as an Indian, Virat Kohli—especially the way he has dominated white-ball cricket, particularly the one-day format. And watching Travis Head out here, it’s mainly his mindset.”
