The young batter did not hesitate and openly backed Babar Azam as his biggest inspiration. With Virat Kohli often admired by the youngsters across the world, Pakistan’s rising middle-order batter ignored the Indian batting sensation and named Babar as his favorite cricketer.

As reported by Geo News, the teenage batting prodigy said when he was asked about his favorite Pakistani cricketer, “Babar Azam is my favorite player in the Pakistan Cricket Team.”

The statement turned the heads due to its timing. It came after Pakistan’s dominant 191-run victory over India U19 in the Asia Cup final, a match where Minhas was the undisputed star.

The timing made Sameer’s bold remark even more dramatic as he played a key role in Pakistan’s massive 191-run win over India U19 in the U19 Asia Cup 2025 final in Dubai. Minhas had finished a record-breaking tournament and played a starring role in Pakistan’s title triumph.

The right-handed batter ended the tournament as the highest run-scorer, amassing 471 runs in only five matches at a jaw-dropping average of 157 and a strike rate of 117.45. He scored two centuries and a fifty, showing hunger for big scores just like Kohli.

His most brutal innings came against Malaysia U19, where he hammered an unbeaten 177 and dismantled the bowling attack with ease. Minhas then delivered the ultimate statement in the high-voltage India vs. Pakistan encounter in the final.
