122m insanity! Jos Buttler creates Guinness World Record for highest-ever catch taken

Kevin Pietersen and Jos Buttler

Kevin Pietersen has offered the cricket world a chance to witness a jaw-dropping moment, as England star Jos Buttler pulled off something never done before, though off the field, amidst the ongoing T20 World Cup 2026 in India and Sri Lanka.

Jos Buttler pulls off a never-before-seen catch

Actually, Jos Buttler created history by taking the highest-ever catch of a cricket ball, grabbing it cleanly after it was dropped from a drone flying 122 meters above the ground.

The challenge was not easy at all, as the ball was released from a massive height through a drone, testing the former England captain’s eyesight, timing, nerve, and hand–eye coordination.

As the ball came crashing down from the sky, Buttler stayed calm, kept his eyes fixed on it, and completed the catch safely, stunning Pietersen and his entire crew, and now the fans as well, as it was something that was not even done by two of the greatest wicketkeepers, MS Dhoni and Adam Gilchrist.

Buttler breaks world record, video goes viral

With this remarkable effort, the England wicketkeeper-batter has gone past the earlier world record of 119.86 meters, which was set in 2021 in Sydney by Australian wicketkeeper Thimothy Shanon Jebaseelan. Shanon had broken the record of 114 meters achieved in 2019.

Now, Buttler’s 122-meter catch stands tall. This incredible attempt is now waiting for official approval, but if confirmed, Buttler will be crowned the new Guinness World Record holder for the highest catch of a cricket ball ever taken.

However, Pietersen had already confirmed that Buttler broke the world record for the highest catch of a cricket ball. The former England legend shot the video and shared it on his YouTube channel, named “The Switch: Kevin Pietersen and For The Love Of Cricket,” on February 9.

Why Buttler is one of the best wicketkeepers?

That 122-meter catch was done as a challenge, but it still showed how good Buttler is with his hands. Well, the England star has been one of the best wicketkeeper-batters in the world for a long time.

In ODI cricket, Buttler has played 199 matches and taken 236 catches, while he has taken 87 catches in 148 T20I matches for England. Speaking about Test cricket, the Englishman has taken 153 catches in only 73 matches, showing great focus and patience.

Even in the IPL, where matches are full of pressure, Buttler has taken 63 catches in 121 games.

Jos Buttler creates history in the T20 World Cup 2026

On February 8, Jos Buttler reached a big milestone during England’s first match in the T20 World Cup 2026 against Nepal at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

Buttler’s 26 runs from just 17 balls helped him surpass Sri Lankan legend Mahela Jayawardene to become the third-highest run scorer in T20 World Cup history. Jayawardene had 1,016 runs to his name in 31 T20 World Cup matches.

The Englishman achieved this record while playing his 36th T20 World Cup match. He now has 1,039 runs in the tournament at an average of 41.56, and the strike rate is 147.37. Only two players have more runs than Buttler in T20 World Cup history, and they are India’s Rohit Sharma (1,220) and Virat Kohli (1,292 runs).
